At a Glance

Choice starts early at Corrie: nursery children are encouraged to make decisions and consider other children's choices. That gives independence a practical place in the day. This is Corrie Primary School's own nursery on Cemetery Road in Denton, with term-time places offering 15 to 30 hours a week.

Children usually start in September, January or April after their third birthday. The nursery belongs to the school's early years provision, where learning follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The Nursery Day

Three session patterns shape the week: mornings, afternoons or the longer 30 Hour Places option. Each runs Monday to Friday, giving children a repeated pattern of attendance and families a clear timetable around which to plan.

The EYFS is the nursery's curriculum framework. Corrie describes its early learning as balancing academic learning with personal development. Independence has concrete expression here: children make choices from nursery onwards, while early years children are encouraged to think through risks. A climbing frame provides the school's example of deciding whether equipment is safe to use. The point is to practise judgement as well as follow instructions.

Learning about other people also starts in the foundation stage. Children hear stories connected with different cultures and faiths, explore celebrations, and think about sharing, kindness and working together. These experiences give the nursery's emphasis on respecting others a practical context. Across EYFS, daily phonics uses Story Time phonics, linking letters with sounds and combining sounds to read words.

Care and Support

Families have access to the school's SEND support contact at senco@corrie.tameside.sch.uk. Tameside SENDIASS also provides impartial advice and information for parents of children with disabilities or special educational needs. That gives families both a school contact and a separate advice service.

Learning Mentors provide family support within the wider school. This can begin informally or involve an Early Help Assessment when additional agencies or services are needed. They also help families connect with outside organisations, including The Hive and the Anthony Seddon Centre. These are school-wide support routes, useful alongside discussions about a nursery child's needs.

Moving On to Reception

Attending Corrie's nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal school admissions process and meet its deadline. Tameside School Admissions is the route for school admissions; treat that application as a separate task from securing nursery sessions.

Practical Information

Mornings run from 09:00 to 12:00; afternoons from 12:30 to 15:30. The 30 Hour Places pattern runs from 09:00 to 15:30. Each option comprises five sessions, Monday to Friday, during term time. Holiday cover. Nursery places follow school terms, so families need to plan childcare around those breaks.

Eligibility applies to funded 30 hour places, and the local authority requires codes to be renewed each term. Families who do not qualify for a Government code can pay for the additional 15 hours. Contact the school for current charges.

Nursery applications go directly to Corrie. Families can email a completed form with a scan or photograph of their child's passport or birth certificate, or take it to the KS1 office. Paper forms can also be completed there with the identity document. Enquiries go to admin@corrie.tameside.sch.uk or 0161 336 2242.

The school building is single storey, and its car park includes a designated disabled parking bay. These are useful practical features for families considering access.
