At a Glance

Songs, stories and conversations give this nursery its character. Speech and language are a stated priority across the early years at Our Lady of the Rosary RC Primary School, with children's choices helping to shape learning. The nursery caters for three- and four-year-olds within a Catholic primary school on Davyhulme Road in Davyhulme, Manchester.

The nursery day runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm. That gives families a clear daytime framework, while the curriculum combines early learning with independence and relationships. We hold no published inspection grade for it.

The Nursery Day

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings together communication, physical development and children's social and emotional growth, alongside early literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and creative expression. Staff assess children when they start and use their existing knowledge to plan learning. Children's questions also influence subsequent lessons, giving their interests a place in the curriculum.

Art makes those choices tangible. Nursery learning includes experimenting with colour, combining materials and textures, and drawing faces with increasing detail. Children select resources for their ideas and practise using scissors, pens and pencils. These activities link creative decisions with the hand control needed for early writing. Music adds another route to expression: children learn songs, invent their own versions and explore playing instruments.

Early reading begins with listening closely to language. Children explore rhymes, clap out syllables and notice matching initial sounds. Longer stories and conversations about books extend vocabulary; pretend play gives children another reason to use it. Animal sets, dolls and dolls houses support story-making, connecting talk with imaginative play. Across the early years, the school aims to provide both indoor and outdoor learning spaces where children can explore challenges and develop independence.

Care and Support

Parents receive progress updates through Seesaw and VIP phone calls, and can attend EYFS Curriculum meetings. These give families ways to discuss learning beyond the classroom. A Nursery Stay & Play was scheduled for 21 September 2026, offering a further occasion for shared involvement.

Additional needs are addressed through the school's Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle. Teachers and the SENCO consider observations and parents' views when planning support, then review its effect. Support can include speech and language, physical development, social skills and help with emotions. For children on the SEN register, three meetings a year through School Cloud provide opportunities to review targets with the class teacher.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through Trafford Council Admissions and meet the deadline for the relevant admissions cycle. Treat this as a fresh application, even if your child already attends the nursery.

The school aims to prepare children for their next stage by developing independence, friendships and communication. Those learning aims are separate from the allocation of Reception places.

Practical Information

The nursery's 9:00am to 3:00pm hours are the practical starting point for planning the day. For enquiries, the school office is the first contact: telephone 0161 748 4626 or email admin@ourladyrosary.co.uk.

School uniform is supplied by Monkhouse Schoolwear Specialists, with online ordering and a shop at The Old Post Office, 10 King Street, Stretford. This gives families a choice between ordering remotely and shopping in person.
