A reading book goes home from the first week of Nursery at Partington Central Academy. That gives families a concrete way to join in from the start. This is the nursery class within the primary academy on Central Road, Partington, where the school's age range begins at three.
Books give the nursery day a clear thread. In November 2024, children developed enthusiasm for reading through shared rhymes, storytelling and books. Adults also helped children build their spoken language. These are useful foundations: joining a conversation and enjoying a story matter before a child can read independently.
Read, Write, Inc is the named phonics programme, with small groups organised by ability in the early years foundation stage (EYFS). Phonics connects letters with sounds, then brings those sounds together into words. The school's reading spaces include class libraries and the Reading Room, giving children books to choose as well as texts adults introduce.
Exploration sits alongside early reading. The Dean Trust curriculum begins in Nursery, and the school aims to develop independence and confidence through learning. Nursery experiences have included an EYFS Polar Regions Workshop on 14 December 2023 and an EYFS Space Workshop on 25 January 2024. Those are past examples of topics extending beyond familiar surroundings, rather than promises about the next programme.
Learning to be with other children is part of the early years experience. In November 2024, children practised sharing and showing consideration for one another, alongside play and conversation. Adult support for language helped them communicate. For a young child, expressing an idea and taking part with others are closely connected.
Families can raise concerns with the class teacher. Across the school, the special educational needs coordinator (SENCO) brings parents and professionals together to coordinate support. Additional help can happen in class or through individual and small-group work. Children with special educational needs have an Additional Needs Support Plan, including ways families can support their goals at home. This gives home and school a shared focus for support.
Full-time nursery attendance includes a lunch period from 11.30am to noon, separating the morning's learning from the afternoon session.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal admissions process. For Trafford residents, the route is through Trafford; families living elsewhere apply through their home authority.
For the September 2026 intake, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle is now past. Treat the Reception application as a separate task from choosing nursery sessions, so a child's existing attendance does not become a reason to overlook it.
Three attendance patterns are offered: morning sessions run from 8.40am to 11.40am, afternoons from noon to 3pm, and full-time places from 8.40am to 3pm. The distinction matters for collection arrangements: nursery finishes earlier than the main school's day.
