Planting areas, sensory exploration and books shared in the shade give Peel Hall’s nursery provision its clearest character. It sits within Peel Hall Primary Academy on Ashurst Road in Wythenshawe, with an Early Years outdoor classroom designed specifically for the youngest learners. Play and conversation are central to the activities described here.
The academy has no Ofsted graded rating yet. Families should distinguish the provision’s physical features and planned activities from an inspected judgement about their quality.
Language runs through the Early Years day. Adults model conversations and help children practise taking turns; circle time sits alongside speaking and listening activities. Songs, poems and nursery rhymes give children different ways to encounter words, while teachers introduce vocabulary and new ideas deliberately. For parents, that means language learning extends beyond a single story session.
Books also travel home. Nursery children choose a book to share for enjoyment, with teachers helping them find something that interests them. The Hungry Caterpillar is one nursery reading example. Choosing a story gives children a small but meaningful decision of their own and provides something concrete to share with their family.
Outside, the Early Years outdoor classroom includes planting spaces, natural materials and areas for exploration. The school aims to use this environment for sensory experiences, movement and imaginative play, alongside opportunities for children to cooperate and make choices. This gives the outdoor space a learning purpose beyond physical exercise.
Shaded corners have also been used for children to share books, discuss pictures and characters, and consider what might happen next. These are concrete examples of the Early Years Foundation Stage approach here: learning through play, interaction and exploration, with adults helping children develop language and independence.
An Early Years lead, a phase leader who also teaches nursery, and teaching assistants form the EYFS team. The nursery teacher’s phase leadership role connects classroom work with responsibility for the wider Early Years provision.
Additional support includes a SENCO, a speech therapist and a Trust Inclusion Lead. The school supports children with communication difficulties, learning needs, sensory or physical needs, and social, emotional or mental health needs. Speech and language therapy can include assessment, recommended strategies and programmes, giving families a specific support route for communication concerns.
Parents can contact the SENCO directly at senco@peelhall.manchester.sch.uk. Family Support has a separate contact address, familysupport@peelhall.manchester.sch.uk, so educational needs and wider family concerns have distinct points of contact.
A nursery place does not guarantee admission to Reception at Peel Hall. Families must apply separately through the normal Reception admissions process and meet the relevant deadline. Treat the nursery decision and the Reception application as separate tasks.
School places are allocated using severe social or medical needs, siblings already attending the school, and straight-line distance from home to school. Availability still matters. Choosing the nursery for its day-to-day provision is therefore a different decision from securing a later school place.

The academy’s uniform combines a white shirt or polo with a red cardigan or jumper, plus black or grey trousers or a skirt. Summer dresses may have red-and-white stripes or checks. Black shoes are required, with socks in white, grey or black. Open sandals and flip-flops are excluded.
A branded jumper is provided free to pupils at the beginning of each school year. Pre-loved clothing is held at the office, and uniform exchanges take place regularly. These give families practical ways to obtain school clothing and replace items as children grow.
