Books, stories and rhymes give Peel Hall’s nursery a clear starting point: enjoying language before learning to read. This is the school’s own Nursery class in Little Hulton, for children who turn four during the academic year, with birthdays between September and August. Places are currently allocated full time.
Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 4 and 5 June 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery inspection outcome.
An 8:40am start and 3:15pm finish give the day a school timetable. The nursery morning runs until 11:30am, followed by lunch until 12:30pm and an afternoon learning period. For families, the full-time allocation means planning around a complete school day.
Listening comes before formal reading. In June 2024, nursery children enjoyed books alongside stories and rhymes, preparing them well for learning to read. The emphasis gives young children a route into reading through spoken language and shared listening.
Within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), religious education starts with experiences children can recognise. They talk about events in their lives and explore how families and traditions differ. Books, special objects and celebration days bring those ideas into activities using their senses. This makes learning about other people concrete for young children.
Children in early years spoke positively about the support and care they received in June 2024. The school’s Inclusion Team works with carers, parents and external agencies to organise help around individual children and their families. Parents therefore have a role in shaping that support.
School support includes a SENDCo whose role does not include classroom teaching, a specialist SEN teacher and Learning Mentors. For children learning English, the school works with Salford EMTAS (Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service). Support can include assessment through the Bell Foundation Assessment Framework and individual or small-group work, depending on language needs.
Food support extends across the school: fresh vegetables and fruit are provided free through Tesco’s Stronger Starts Fruit & Veg for Schools Initiative. This is a school-wide offer rather than a nursery lunch menu.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Salford Local Authority Admissions and meet the deadline for their application cycle. The local authority processes admissions; the school does not decide the outcome. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as separate decisions.
Children can enter school from 8:35am. The full-time nursery allocation is the practical starting point when considering how attendance fits family routines.
Uniform policy applies to all children. It includes a white polo shirt, grey trousers or skirt, and a navy jumper or cardigan; a logo is optional. The Uniform Exchange outside the main office supplies second-hand items, giving families an alternative to buying new.
For enquiries, email info@peelhall.co.uk. Visits can be arranged with the school. Applications go through Salford Local Authority Admissions, whose telephone number is 0161 793 2500.
