Sharing, communication and familiar classroom routines shape the early-years experience at Talmud Torah Chinuch Norim School, an Orthodox Jewish boys’ school in Salford. Its nursery provision includes provision for children aged two, although no two-year-olds were attending in November 2024. Families should distinguish that provision from the children attending at that point.
At the inspection of 19 to 21 November 2024, Ofsted judged the school’s early-years provision to require improvement. This is the early-years judgement within the school’s inspection, rather than a separate nursery rating. The picture combines positive relationships and settled routines with a need for better learning provision.
Classroom routines give the day a recognisable structure. In November 2024, early-years children followed those routines and treated their teachers respectfully. Most got along with their classmates, developing their ability to share and communicate. For a young child, those are practical foundations for participating in a group: expressing a need, sharing something with another child and understanding classroom expectations.
Respect for differences also forms part of early-years learning. Children learn that other pupils may differ from them, making social understanding part of their education alongside learning how to cooperate.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides the framework for this provision. In November 2024, its statutory requirements were fully met. Meeting those requirements did not remove the concerns about educational quality. Teachers were developing a clearer understanding of the essential knowledge to teach and its sequence in some early-years subjects. The practical distinction for parents is between children becoming comfortable with the classroom and learning being planned clearly enough to build their knowledge.
Positive relationships help children settle. In November 2024, children in the early years enjoyed attending and valued the support and care from staff. Staff’s understanding of pupils’ needs helped them become comfortable at school and feel safe. That matters for young children learning to spend time away from their families.
At school level, the January 2026 monitoring inspection found that safeguarding systems could identify, document and escalate concerns, with appropriately trained staff supporting this work. These arrangements cover the school rather than constituting a separate nursery assessment.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately for Reception through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and obtaining a Reception place as separate decisions; familiarity with the school should not be treated as an offer of admission.
The school operates at 11 Wellington Street East, Salford, Manchester, M7 2AU. Contact the school office on 0161 792 9292 or at office@ttcn.co.uk for nursery enquiries.
Regulatory position. In January 2026, the school did not meet all the independent school standards checked during monitoring. This is a school-level compliance finding, distinct from the early-years grade, and is material context for families considering its nursery.
