Nursery at The Deans Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
An early start within a primary school, with learning, emotions and social development treated as connected aims: that is the context for nursery at The Deans. The school has nursery provision and starts its age range at three. Its address is Stanwell Road, Swinton, M27 5TD.
The school says it sets high expectations for behaviour as well as learning, and aims to develop children socially and emotionally alongside their education. For parents choosing a first school setting, those aims make relationships and growing independence relevant parts of the conversation, alongside learning itself. We hold no published inspection grade for this nursery.
Early years staff have undertaken training and received support in responding to increasingly complex needs. They describe adapting their practice and being open to new ideas. This places the nursery within an early years team working with differences in children’s development, rather than assuming that children need the same response.
Across the school, teaching staff have trained with Nurture International. The Digital Developmental Profile is used to identify individual needs and next steps, with communication, emotional resilience and social interaction selected as areas of focus. These are school-wide arrangements: they give context to the emphasis on children’s emotional and social development, rather than describing a nursery session timetable.
A special educational needs coordinator provides a contact for questions about SEN. Parents can also reach safeguarding leads through the school office. These are distinct routes for discussing developmental needs and concerns about a child’s safety.
Operation Encompass connects the school with Salford Local Authority and Greater Manchester Police following domestic abuse incidents that may affect a child. The school has four Key Adults for this work and aims to make a trusted adult available when a child needs help. That gives families a route to support after difficulties outside school.
Communication has two named systems. Class Dojo is used for day-to-day contact with parents; Arbor handles payments and access to information held about families and children. Parents can request translated school information and paper copies, making communication accessible through more than one format.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route by the normal deadline. Choosing nursery here therefore needs to be a decision about the nursery itself; a later school place remains a separate application.
For nursery enquiries, contact the school office at office@deansprimary.uk or on 0161 464 3170. The school welcomes appointments to visit, giving families an opportunity to discuss whether the setting suits their child.
For planning ahead, the school closes for autumn half term on 23 October 2026 and reopens on 2 November 2026. The Christmas closure is 18 December 2026, with reopening on 4 January 2027. These dates matter when arranging family care around school holidays.
