Long celebrated as Shropshire's gingerbread town, Market Drayton sits in north Shropshire on the banks of the River Tern, near the Cheshire and Staffordshire borders, with around 13,000 people settled in a place whose character has been set by centuries of weekly markets and canal trade. The Shropshire Union Canal still runs through the town.
The A53 carries road traffic toward Stoke-on-Trent to the east and Shrewsbury to the southwest, and no passenger rail has served the town since the 1960s. Loggerheads village draws families competing for primary places, and Market Drayton itself is known for its school catchments across the town. Moreton Say and Hodnet are among the quieter rural villages that school-age families consider nearby.
