Nursery at Brooklands Farm Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. An Early Years School with its own outdoor space gives Brooklands Farm’s youngest children a distinct base within a much larger organisation. Nursery provision sits within one primary school across the Fen Street and Countess Way campuses. The school organises each campus into smaller age-group communities, giving early years its own identity and routines.
Children join nursery in the September after their third birthday. For families, this is a school-based start with a separate early years base, rather than simply a place within the wider primary campus.
Outdoor play space, a central learning area and separate entrances and exits belong to each of the school’s smaller communities, including Early Years. These spaces give the youngest age group a defined setting for its routines, with room for outdoor activity as well as a shared learning base indoors.
Behaviour is made visible in nursery through a chart using weather symbols. Children begin each day on sunshine; listening, treating others kindly and engaging in learning can move them towards a rainbow or star. A thinking cloud gives time to reflect, while a rain cloud follows continued unwanted behaviour. The nursery aims to reinforce expectations positively. Parents are encouraged to use the same vocabulary at home, giving children familiar language for discussing their choices.
Each child has a team that includes a class teacher and support staff. Communication can go through the school office or directly to the nursery team for the relevant campus, giving parents a specific route for everyday concerns.
For additional needs, the school’s inclusion arrangements involve parents before decisions about a formal support programme. An Outcome Focussed Target Sheet may be agreed and reviewed with the family. Speech and Language services and the Educational Psychologist are among the external specialists the school can approach; referrals require parental consent. This makes family discussion part of deciding what support a child needs.
The inclusion team can also be contacted through the office or its own email address. Parents can therefore raise a concern through the teaching team or approach the team coordinating additional support.
Separate application. Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply again through the normal school admissions process. Applications go through the Milton Keynes portal. For the September 2026 intake, the closing date was 15 January 2026; that deadline has passed.
Preparation for a new class is a separate matter from securing a place. Where individual needs call for extra transition support, children moving from nursery may have additional classroom visits, and families may meet the new teacher. Visits can help children locate toilets and pegs; photographs of important people and spaces may become a transition booklet. These arrangements are tailored to the child, providing concrete ways to make a change of classroom more familiar.
Nursery enquiries can be directed to the relevant campus office. Fen Street uses office@brooklandsfarm.milton-keynes.sch.uk; Countess Way uses officecountessway@brooklandsfarm.milton-keynes.sch.uk. Both campuses share the telephone number 01908 760081.
For communication with nursery staff, the team addresses are nurseryteachersfs@brooklandsfarm.milton-keynes.sch.uk and nurseryteacherscw@brooklandsfarm.milton-keynes.sch.uk respectively. Using the appropriate campus address puts a family’s message with its nursery team.
