Early reading and learning to take turns give Oldbrook’s nursery a clear educational starting point. In July 2023, Ofsted identified a positive start to reading from Nursery and children in early years exchanging ideas and waiting their turn. These are useful foundations for both learning and playing together.
The nursery sits on the school site at Illingworth Place in Oldbrook, Milton Keynes. Its provision served three- and four-year-olds in July 2023.
The day can be a morning, an afternoon or a full day. Morning children have a snack during their session, adding a care routine to the learning timetable.
For a concrete example of learning activities, the nursery’s January 2021 home-learning plan combined The Tale of Jack Frost with sorting initial sounds and drawing a character with three icicles. Numberblocks and Alphablocks accompanied counting and sound activities. This was remote learning, rather than a timetable for today’s classroom, but it illustrates how a story became a starting point for drawing, speaking and early number work.
Curriculum planning. The July 2023 improvement actions required clearer decisions about essential knowledge in some subjects, with learning organised in sequence from early years onwards. They also called for more accurate assessment in foundation subjects across the school. For families, the relevant issue is how activities build on previous learning and how teaching responds to what children already understand.
Care starts with information about the individual child. The nursery registration form asks about medical conditions, regular medication and dietary requirements, as well as family circumstances. This gives parents a specific opportunity to explain needs that may affect their child’s day.
Emergency arrangements are part of the same form: families provide daytime contact details, an additional contact and the order in which adults should be called. Keeping those details accurate matters if a child needs help during a session.
A morning snack is provided, with a parental contribution requested. The registration form also asks families to give or withhold consent for supervised local learning visits, including consideration of individual medical and special educational needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or give admission priority. Milton Keynes City Council’s arrangements for September 2026 explicitly separate nursery attendance from the allocation of school places. Families must make a fresh Reception application through the council’s coordinated admissions scheme by the deadline for their entry year.
For September 2026 entry, that deadline was 15 January 2026. It is a past admissions cycle. The school’s admissions page directs parents to the Milton Keynes School Admissions Team, making the council the practical contact for the next application.
Morning Session runs from 8.45am to 11.45am; Afternoon Session runs from 11.45am to 3pm. All Day covers 8.45am to 3pm. The timetable links the shorter sessions to 15-hour funding and the full day to 30-hour funding.
The Nursery Session Request Form describes three funding structures: 15 funded hours, 30 funded hours under the extended entitlement, or 15 funded hours plus 15 paid hours. It asks families to choose five mornings or five full days each week. Those booking patterns require a regular weekly commitment.

No. The council’s September 2026 admission arrangements give neither a guaranteed place nor preference to children attending a school’s nursery. A separate Reception application is required.
