Three-hour sessions or a full school day: Maun’s nursery gives families distinct term-time patterns, with play, songs and early learning sharing the timetable. The nursery belongs to Maun Infant and Nursery School on Walesby Lane in New Ollerton. Children normally join in the term following their third birthday and can remain until the academic year after they turn four ends.
Capacity depends on staffing: each morning or afternoon can accommodate a maximum of 26 or 39 children. Staffing ratios follow statutory requirements for the number attending. These are conditional session limits, so families should distinguish capacity from an offer of a place.
A Hello Song, registration and music help give sessions a recognisable shape. Phonics and maths sit alongside two periods of free-flow provision, with a story before home time. Drawing Club appears on Mondays and Thursdays; Circle Time features on Tuesdays and Fridays. Children therefore have both group activities and time for play within the same session.
Letters and Sounds provides the phonics framework. Its nursery starting point is Phase 1: rhymes, rhythm and listening to sounds, including those heard in toys and speech. Sharing books and singing songs support vocabulary and conversation. For parents, this means early reading begins with listening and language rather than simply learning written letters.
The Foundation 1 nursery occupies a separate, open-plan building. There are small steps into the nursery, a practical consideration for children with mobility needs. Together, the open-plan space and free-flow periods give a concrete picture of the setting’s layout and daily organisation. For children staying all day, lunch falls between the morning and afternoon sessions, from 11.45am to 12.30pm.
Settling begins with Stay and Play sessions after a written offer has been accepted. Children meet members of the nursery team before starting, giving them an introduction to the adults who will care for them.
For a child with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), concerns can first be raised with the class teacher. The teacher and SEND coordinator discuss support, with a six-week monitoring period followed by a review involving parents. Communication includes home/school diaries, Marvellous Me and termly SEND meetings. These give families opportunities to discuss both progress and next steps.
Zones of Regulation is used across the school, with the aim of helping children recognise feelings and practise ways to manage them. Lunchtime care has a clear food choice: children staying for lunch may bring a healthy packed lunch or have a hot dinner, charged separately and ordered through Arbor. Nursery milk is free until the fifth birthday.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no admission priority. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority; Nottinghamshire County Council coordinates the school’s admissions. For September 2027 entry, the deadline is 15 January 2027. Choosing nursery and applying for Reception are separate decisions.
Transition support for children with SEND includes advance sharing of learning plans, opportunities to become familiar with the next classroom and extra visits according to need. A picture passport introduces the new environment and staff. This supports familiarity; it does not alter admission entitlement.
The universal 15-hour entitlement is taken as five mornings, 8.45am to 11.45am, or five afternoons, 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Eligible working families can access the extended 30-hour entitlement. Those places allow attendance from 8.45am to 3.30pm across five days, totalling 33.75 hours, with no additional charge for those hours. Lunch is charged separately if a hot meal is chosen.
Extended funding requires an eligibility code obtained in the term before starting and rechecked before each term ends. Additional paid hours for universal-entitlement children depend on availability after funded applications are processed. Arbor handles advance booking and payment, due by the preceding week’s Monday. Ask the school for current charges.
Nursery enquiries go to the office or the online Nursery Place Request Form. Contact office@mauninfants.co.uk or 01623 860773. Families must supply at least two emergency contacts; the person bringing and collecting a child must be responsible and aged at least 16.
Children normally start in the term after their third birthday, with intakes usually in September, January and April, subject to places being available.
Morning sessions run from 8.45am to 11.45am and afternoons from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Extended-entitlement places allow a full day from 8.45am to 3.30pm.
No. Nursery attendance gives no admission priority and does not guarantee a place. A separate local authority application is required; the September 2027 entry deadline is 15 January 2027.
After families accept a written nursery offer, Stay and Play sessions are arranged so children can meet members of the nursery team.
Hot dinners cost extra for children staying through lunch and are ordered in advance through Arbor. Children can bring a healthy packed lunch instead.
