Nursery at Forest Hall Primary School

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

Woodland Wednesdays give Forest Hall’s early years provision a distinctive outdoor focus: children explore the natural environment while building confidence and learning to work together. The nursery belongs to the school’s Early Years Foundation Stage, alongside Reception. Its morning model provides 26 places, with a waiting list.

Ofsted’s report dated 2 June 2026 judged early years to meet the Expected standard. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.

The Nursery Day

Topics and themes organise the curriculum. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings together learning to communicate, manage feelings and move confidently, alongside early literacy, maths, creative expression and understanding the world. Play, exploration and thinking through problems are part of that approach. Adults respond to children’s interests and recognise that development happens at different rates.

Language gets sustained attention. In June 2026, staff introduced vocabulary through stories, rhymes and songs, encouraging children to take part. Children became more confident in expressing themselves. For a parent, the useful detail is the connection between shared activities and opportunities to speak, rather than simply listening to adults.

Outdoor learning has a practical purpose too. Woodland Wednesdays include choices about routes through the wildlife area, with adults helping children weigh up their decisions. Children learn about environmental risks and water safety. These activities develop independence, cooperation and persistence, while giving children experience of making choices beyond the classroom.

Care and Support

Relationships support children’s start in early years. In June 2026, adults knew children individually and worked with families on their safety and needs. Learning activities helped children begin school feeling happy and confident. The nursery also prefers attendance at all five morning sessions because repeated contact helps children become familiar with adults and routines.

Support is adjusted to the child. Early years staff monitored learning and changed teaching for disadvantaged children and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), adding focused help when needed. This connects identifying a difficulty with action during learning, so children receive support to keep pace with the curriculum.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process. Nursery applications go to the School Office. For September 2025 Reception entry, parents had to complete the North Tyneside Common Application Form and submit it directly to the Access Team at North Tyneside Council. Confirm the route and deadline for your child’s intake and apply by that deadline.

Keep deadlines tied to the correct intake. For September 2025 Reception entry, the application deadline was 13 January 2025. That date is past and should not be used for a later intake. Familiarity with nursery adults and school routines remains separate from the council’s allocation of a Reception place.

Practical Information

Morning sessions run from 8.45am to 11.45am, giving 15 hours across five sessions each week. The preference for the complete weekly pattern makes this a regular morning commitment for families arranging work and collection. Nursery applications go directly to the School Office. Contact it on 0191 3009341 or office@foresthallprimary.co.uk.

Site change. In June 2026, a merger with another local school and a move to a different site were planned for September 2026. Those plans matter to families’ travel arrangements; the planned date has now passed. School-specific training days are communicated by email and the homepage banner, so families should watch those notices when organising childcare.
