Nursery at Kingston Park Primary School

An Early Years Building gives Kingston Park’s nursery a distinct setting within the primary school. This is provision for children aged three, with a single September intake rather than entry points spread through the year. For families, that makes the start of nursery a shared annual milestone.
The nursery curriculum spans the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Communication and language, physical development, and personal, social and emotional development sit alongside literacy and maths. Understanding the world and expressive arts and design complete the picture: the learning covers children’s relationships, movement and expression as well as early academic skills.
Stories have a place in the daily rhythm. Each class has a quiet story period towards the end of the day, giving children a shared listening experience before home time. Nursery lunch begins at 11.30am, earlier than lunch for the older children. These are useful anchors for parents thinking about how the nursery day fits their child’s routines at home.
Additional support is organised through the school’s special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO), working with families, staff and other professionals. The school assesses children’s strengths and needs, including difficulties with communication, emotional regulation and sensory, physical or medical needs. This gives families a route to discuss concerns that affect participation in nursery life.
Curriculum materials and resources are adapted for children with additional needs. Teaching assistants support children in class, while regular reviews consider interventions and whether provision needs to change. Advice from outside agencies can help staff understand a child’s needs and plan support. The practical implication is an individual discussion about what helps a child access learning, rather than treating every additional need in the same way.
Families are involved through formal review meetings and informal conversations. For children with higher levels of need, review meetings bring parents into the discussion about support and progress. Ongoing SEND training is provided for teachers and teaching assistants.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal school admissions route; joining nursery does not replace that step.
For entry in September 2026, applications went through the School Admissions Team at Newcastle Civic Centre and closed at midday on Thursday 15th January 2026. That deadline has passed. Keep the nursery decision and the later Reception application as separate tasks, even when choosing both stages at the same school.
Nursery enquiries go through the school on 0191 2140363. Families can contact the school office to arrange a visit, providing an opportunity to discuss their child’s move into nursery with staff.
Children are collected from the nursery classroom at the end of the school day. This is a concrete collection point for parents organising who will take their child home.
Children join aged three. For the September 2026 intake, they needed to be three by 31st August 2026.

No. A separate Reception application is required through the normal school admissions route.
