Nursery at Greenwood Primary School

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

Songs, repeated stories and plenty of conversation shape Greenwood’s nursery offer. This is the school’s own provision in Northolt, with 50 part-time places and a 15-hour weekly pattern. Children can join from the term following their third birthday, subject to vacancies. For families, the practical starting point is a short session in a primary-school setting.

Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at its October 2022 inspection. That judgement covers early years within Greenwood, rather than a separately inspected nursery.

The Nursery Day

Books provide a starting point for talk and imagination. Familiar songs and stories return so children can retell them and invent versions of their own. Adults demonstrate sentence structures and introduce vocabulary throughout learning activities. The emphasis is on helping children put their ideas into words, rather than simply listening to an adult read.

Summer brings an introduction to oral blending. Children practise clear speech sounds, then use Fred talk in small groups to join sounds into words. Writing preparation includes making letter shapes in the air, alongside work on pencil control and how children sit for writing. These are concrete steps towards handling sounds and making marks with purpose.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings together language, physical development, relationships and early learning. Greenwood’s curriculum includes understanding the world and creative expression alongside literacy and maths. Its topic approach connects areas of learning, with outdoor learning used where possible. The school library gives children access to different authors and types of books.

In October 2022, children in early years received effective help with expressing ideas and constructing longer sentences. Curriculum precision. Some essential vocabulary and knowledge were not defined clearly enough, leaving gaps in children’s understanding. Families should weigh that specific weakness alongside the language support.

Care and Support

Additional needs have a school-level contact route through the special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) and SEND team. Greenwood’s SEND information covers communication, learning, emotional needs and physical or sensory needs. This gives families a starting point for discussing their child’s needs before joining.

A Parent Support Advisor helps families with routines, attendance and behaviour, and directs them towards outside services. Across the school, Therapeutic Thinking guides behaviour support: adults consider the reasons for behaviour and use restorative conversations to help children understand its effects. These are school-wide arrangements supporting the nursery’s wider context.

Moving On to Reception

A nursery place does not guarantee a Reception place at Greenwood. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority; the school does not process main-round Reception applications.

For September 2026 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2026, using the local-authority route through eAdmissions. That cycle has passed. Treat the nursery decision and the Reception application as separate decisions, even when the preferred school is the same.

Practical Information

Morning sessions run from 8:30am to 11:30am; afternoons run from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Each offers a defined part of the day, so collection arrangements need to fit the chosen session.

Children must be toilet trained under the nursery entry rule. Contact the school office to arrange a visit or discuss an application. The office can be reached on 020 8422 9630 or at admin@greenwood.ealing.sch.uk, and the contact page includes an enquiry form.
