Language and play shape the early years ambitions at Bluecoat Bentinck Primary Academy. The nursery belongs to the school in Hyson Green, on Alfreton Road, and caters for children aged 3 and 4 through its N1 and N2 provision. Children become eligible to attend in the term following their third birthday.
From September 2026, capacity is 26 children per morning session and 26 per afternoon session, including up to 8 funded full-time places within that total. This is a term-time option for families. The academy has no Ofsted graded rating yet.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) approach aims to develop movement, language, thinking and emotions together. In parent terms, the ambition extends beyond learning facts: children are encouraged to become curious learners, gain independence and communicate with other children through play.
Vocabulary has a clear place in that approach. The school aims to give children language they can use to connect with others, alongside opportunities to build new knowledge from what they already understand. For a parent choosing an early education setting, that emphasis makes talking and interaction central to the nursery’s intended character.
Starting points matter too. The early years curriculum takes account of children’s needs when they begin, with differentiated learning intended to accommodate different backgrounds and circumstances. The school also aims to work with parents and carers to encourage enthusiasm and independence.
Inclusion is an explicit school aim: children should have equal access to learning opportunities and the curriculum. Families with questions about additional needs can contact the school’s special educational needs coordinator through the office. That gives parents a route to discuss their child’s circumstances before starting.
The school’s Safeguarding Team supports children and families and works with outside agencies. Concerns can be sent directly to safeguarding@bentinck.nottingham.sch.uk, giving families a specific contact for welfare matters.
Food and drink include fruit and milk for children across the school, with fresh drinking water accessible throughout the day. Milk registration is handled through Cool Milk. These everyday arrangements matter alongside the learning programme, especially when a child is adjusting to spending time away from home.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee admission to Reception. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority’s coordinated admissions process; a nursery place does not replace that application.
For the September 2027 Reception intake, application information is to be sent by the home local authority during autumn 2026. Treat the move into school as a separate decision and application, even if your child already attends this nursery.
Morning, afternoon and funded full-time provision form the September 2026 model. Funding begins in the term following a child’s third birthday. The nursery closes for school holidays and INSET days, so families need other arrangements during those breaks.
Applications use the Nursery Application Form, with a paper alternative obtainable from the academy office. Admissions enquiries go to admissions@archwaytrust.co.uk; include your child’s date of birth and name so the team can respond to the right circumstances.
An adult must bring nursery children to school and collect them. For eligible September nursery starters receiving income-based Free Academy Meals, uniform assistance includes a bundle containing a book bag and either a cardigan or sweatshirt.
