Making, building and experimenting give Rosecliffe Spencer Academy’s nursery curriculum its practical character. Children work with materials and tools, then tackle purposeful construction tasks. This is the school’s own nursery in Edwalton, with a nursery class teacher and teaching assistant roles within its staffing structure.
Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 20 and 21 June 2023. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery. For parents, it provides a dated assessment of the wider early years provision in which the nursery sits.
Hands-on learning supplies the clearest picture of what children do. The nursery design and technology programme includes handling materials, working with tools and building deliberately. Later activities include gingerbread houses and imaginative construction. These give children concrete tasks through which to explore how materials can be used and how structures hold together.
Creative work continues through art, where making with materials recurs across the nursery programme. The school’s learning approach follows the early years curriculum and aims to build knowledge that children can remember and use in different contexts. In parent terms, the emphasis is on developing learning across several areas, with practical making alongside opportunities to revisit ideas.
At the June 2023 inspection, the early years curriculum covered every learning area, supported by an engaging, well-equipped learning space. Children were willing learners who built positive relationships with staff and peers. For parents, those findings bring together the learning resources and the social experience of using them.
A nursery class teacher works alongside teaching assistants. Beyond the nursery team, the school has an inclusion lead who also serves as SENDCo, giving families a specific role to contact about special educational needs and disabilities. The SENDCo can be reached at sendco@rosecliffespencer.org.uk.
For everyday communication, parents are directed first to their child’s class teacher; reception staff can arrange a teacher appointment. That gives families a straightforward route for discussing their child. Nursery enquiries also have a dedicated email address.
School meals include roast chicken, a ratatouille pasta bake and lentil curry. These examples describe the school’s food provision, rather than establishing a particular nursery lunch arrangement.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer an attendance-based priority under the 2027/28 arrangements. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority by the closing date in Nottinghamshire County Council’s coordinated scheme. Nottinghamshire residents use the county council’s application route.
Oversubscription decisions take account of care status, catchment and siblings, after places for children whose education, health and care plan names the school. Familiarity with the school therefore needs to be kept separate from the application decision.
Send nursery enquiries to nursery@rosecliffespencer.org.uk. The school is at 73 Rose Way, Edwalton, Nottingham, NG12 4JE, and its telephone number is 0115 934 6533. These provide direct contact routes for families considering the nursery.
