Two three-hour sessions and an optional lunch club give Westwood’s nursery day a clear shape. This is the nursery within Westwood Infant and Nursery School on Palmerston Street, accepting children from the term following their second birthday. Funded and non-funded children can attend, so eligibility for funding is not a condition of joining.
Early years provision was graded Good at the Ofsted inspection on 23 and 24 May 2023. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Morning nursery runs from 8:45am to 11:45am; the afternoon runs from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Each gives families a defined arrival and collection window. The lunch club occupies the interval between them and can extend either session, making lunchtime an optional addition to the nursery routine.
In May 2023, the nursery curriculum set out what children should learn at successive stages. In May 2023, routines were familiar to children and staff, and the learning sequence was carefully organised, although implementation was still developing. This gives the day a structure beyond its session times.
Learning for two-year-olds. In May 2023, curriculum planning for the youngest nursery children needed greater precision. Without sufficiently clear learning expectations, staff could not reliably check whether those children were meeting the intended milestones. Work to address this had begun but remained at an early stage. This is a material consideration for families choosing a place for a two-year-old.
Care for the youngest children received deliberate attention in May 2023, and staff looked after early years children well. Familiar routines matter here: they provide a predictable framework for children still adjusting to a school nursery day.
Lunch offers a practical choice. Children attending the lunch club can bring food from home or have a charged hot meal. The club is open to both funded and non-funded children and can accompany a morning or afternoon booking, giving families a way to include a meal within their chosen attendance pattern.
For a concern about a child’s welfare, parents should speak immediately to a staff member. That gives families a direct action when something needs attention.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet its deadline. Treat the nursery decision and the Reception application as two separate steps, even when the intention is for a child to remain at Westwood.
The nursery offers 15 funded hours for eligible two-year-olds. For children aged three, it offers 15 funded hours, with an additional 15 available through the 30-hour entitlement where eligibility conditions are met. Non-funded sessions are also offered. Lunch club and hot meals carry charges; contact the school for current charges.
