Nursery at Stockingford Academy

Speech and language give Stockingford Academy’s early years provision its clearest defining feature: children build vocabulary through activities focused on talking and understanding language. This puts communication firmly in the learning picture.
The nursery belongs to Stockingford Academy on Cross Street in Nuneaton. Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 23 and 24 January 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Talking is part of learning here. In January 2024, early years staff used speech and language activities to develop children’s vocabulary. For parents, the practical significance is a focus on the words children understand and use, rather than treating preparation for reading solely as work with written text.
Thrive is a school-wide approach, shaping adults’ interactions and care for every child. The school describes it as a way to support emotional development and relationships, with staff using strategies to recognise children’s social and emotional needs. For a nursery family, this places emotional support within the wider school’s approach to everyday care.
Support has several points of contact. An Assistant Head oversees SEND and pastoral provision, while the SENCo coordinates help for children receiving SEND Support and those with education, health and care plans. Parents can contact the SENCo at send@stockingfordacademy.org. School-wide SEND parent sessions and newsletters give families further opportunities to understand support and discuss concerns.
Speech and Language Therapy is among the external services working with the school. Following assessment, therapists visit to review children and provide interventions, setting targets that school staff and parents can work towards. This connects support in school with what families do at home. Access follows referral and assessment, rather than being an automatic service for every nursery child.
For family support, the pastoral team can be reached through the school office. A Family Thrive Parenting Programme also runs at school, extending the same named approach to work with parents.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through Warwickshire County Council in the normal admissions round, by the normal deadline.
For the September 2027 intake, nursery attendance gives no priority under the oversubscription criteria. Allocation takes account of care status, catchment, qualifying siblings and qualifying staff relationships, with distance used when requests within a category exceed places. Choosing the nursery therefore needs to be a decision about the nursery experience, with the Reception application treated as a separate step.
A further distinction matters for families with younger siblings: a child attending nursery does not count as an existing school sibling for these admission purposes.
Enquiries and appointments to look around go through the school office on 02476 382 277. The school welcomes telephone requests for a visit, giving families a direct way to arrange a look around before deciding.
Stockingford Academy’s address is Cross Street, Nuneaton, CV10 8JH. The office can also help with questions about joining, and school forms are obtainable there. Reception applications go to Warwickshire County Council rather than through this nursery enquiry route.
