Short sessions, lunch-inclusive options and an All Day booking give Brooke Hill Pre-School several ways to shape a child's time at nursery. This is Brooke Hill Academy's own pre-school provision in Oakham, on Brooke Road. Its practical character is flexibility: families can choose a morning, an afternoon or a longer stay that includes lunch.
Construction play gives a concrete picture of learning here. In March 2024, children became absorbed in a building project while an adult helped them extend their vocabulary. Making and talking happened together. For parents, that example shows how a practical activity can become an opportunity to develop language, rather than treating conversation as a separate task.
Learning checks begin in the early years, with teachers using what children understand to adjust their teaching to individual needs. In March 2024, children also enjoyed talking about their learning with adults. The emphasis in these examples is on interaction: adults listen, discuss and help children put their ideas into words.
A morning runs from 9:00am to 11:30am; the afternoon is 1:00pm to 3:30pm. Lunch-inclusive bookings extend either session, allowing families to choose a longer period around the same morning or afternoon pattern.
Staffing includes a Pre School Lead and an EYFS Lead, alongside the school's SENCO role. These give families identifiable team responsibilities for pre-school, early years and special educational needs support.
Lunchtime provision includes the option of a hot dinner, which carries an additional charge. Choosing lunch therefore means considering both the length of the stay and the meal option.
Home-school communication. In March 2024, some parents across the school felt that replies to concerns took too long and that they were not kept sufficiently informed. That concern matters when judging how well everyday questions and more substantial worries are handled. Parents can contact the school office with queries or use the office email to request an appointment with their child's teacher.
Attending Brooke Hill Pre-School does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process, by the normal deadline.
Rutland County Council allocates Reception places annually. Applications can be submitted online or in writing using the council's application form. Choosing the nursery and applying for school are therefore separate decisions; a pre-school booking should not be treated as a reserved school place.
Morning + Lunch runs from 9:00am to 12:45pm, while Lunch + Afternoon starts at 11:45am and finishes at 3:30pm. All Day covers 9:00am to 3:30pm. Earlier options are Breakfast Club, from 7:45am to 8:45am, and Early Bird, from 8:45am to 9:00am.
Universal funded time is 15 hours, represented by six sessions. Some families may qualify for 30 hours of extended funding. The pre-school aims to accommodate different patterns. Term-start intakes are offered, and half-term starts are also possible, but those half-term places are charged rather than funded.
Extra sessions, lunchtime provision and Breakfast Club carry charges; contact the school for current charges. Fees are due within the first two weeks of term and remain payable during absence, including illness and family holidays.
For enquiries or a visit, contact the school office on 01572 724 214 or email office@brookehillacademy.co.uk. A pre-school admission form provides the application route.
