Nursery at Limehurst Community Primary School

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

Four full days form the core of Limehurst’s nursery offer, including for children whose funded entitlement covers only 15 hours. The school pays for the difference, giving everyone a 25-hour week from Monday to Thursday. That is the decisive practical feature here: families choose a shared attendance pattern rather than a shorter allocation of sessions.

This school-based provision serves eligible three- and four-year-olds on Whitebank Road in Limehurst Village, Oldham. Friday is an optional addition, with different arrangements depending on funding eligibility.

The Nursery Day

The day begins at 8:55am and finishes at 3:10pm. Within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children are encouraged to direct their learning through prompts provided for them. This gives them scope to make choices, rather than having every next step chosen by an adult.

The named LIME Curriculum brings together language, inclusion, motivation and engagement. Vocabulary is deliberately organised across subjects, putting words and their meanings into the wider learning programme. In March 2024, Ofsted identified the nursery curriculum’s emphasis on foundational learning and the development of children’s communication and language. For parents, that makes learning to communicate a substantive part of the educational offer.

The EYFS space also supports play inside and outside during the after-school club. Board games, craft activities and sport belong to that extended part of the day, giving children who stay later further choices after nursery finishes.

Care and Support

Lunch can change with the family’s plans. Children may bring a packed lunch or have a hot school meal, with individual meal bookings made through School Grid. Families can alternate between the two rather than committing to hot meals every day.

The safeguarding team includes a designated lead who also holds the SENCO role, alongside a deputy safeguarding lead. For families seeking SEND information, the school brings together its SEND policy and report with routes to Oldham SEND Information Advice Service and Oldham Point Forum. These provide named starting points for support and advice.

Moving On to Reception

Attending Limehurst’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal primary admissions process, using Oldham Council’s primary school application route. Treat that application as a separate task from arranging nursery attendance.

The nursery’s stated educational aim is readiness for school by the end of the nursery year. Its work on language and children’s independence concerns preparation for the next stage; it should not be read as an admissions entitlement.

Practical Information

Attendance pattern. All nursery children attend the Monday-to-Thursday, 25-hour programme; a universal-entitlement-only 15-hour place is not an option. If extended funding eligibility ends, the school continues covering the difference needed for the core week.

Friday and extras. Children eligible for 30-hour funding can attend Friday from 8:55am to 3:10pm without a session charge. Families with only the 15-hour entitlement may purchase Friday attendance. Hot meals and trips are voluntary extras; contact the school for current charges. Accessing funded hours does not require buying additional services.

After-school care. Limehurst After School Club accepts nursery children and runs Monday to Thursday until 5:15pm during term time. Registration comes first, followed by booking through School Gateway by 11:30am that day. Its 23 places are allocated in booking order. Collection is from the nursery, using the bell at the door opposite the portacabin. For after-school bookings, changes or cancellations made at least a week before the session avoid a charge. Later changes are non-refundable, so families should check their plans before committing to a session.

Uniform includes a yellow polo shirt, a bottle-green top and black or grey leggings or tracksuit bottoms. Shoes must have no laces; wellington boots and sun hats stay at school. Nursery application packs can be collected from the office or requested at info@limehurst.oldham.sch.uk. The school’s telephone number is 0161 770 7220.
