Nursery at Oasis Academy Limeside

Little Wizards gives two-year-olds their own starting point at Oasis Academy Limeside. The nursery phase covers ages 2 to 4: Little Wizards supports children aged 2–3, while Nursery serves ages 3–4. Both belong to the academy in Oldham, on Third Avenue, within a school building dating from 1931.
In March 2024, Ofsted judged the school's early years provision to require improvement. That judgement covers early years within the academy; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Stories, rhymes and songs provide a concrete starting point for learning. In March 2024, children in the provision for two- and three-year-olds were developing their ability to distinguish sounds through these activities. For parents, this means early reading preparation begins with listening and recognising sounds, rather than simply learning printed words.
Morning and afternoon sessions each have their own timetable, and a full-day option is also offered. This gives families a choice between a shorter session and a longer nursery day.
Learning beyond reading. In March 2024, the effects of the new curriculum beyond reading could not yet be assessed, including in early years. Some staff introduced further learning before checking that earlier knowledge was secure. This makes checking children's understanding an important area for improvement.
Before a September start, the academy introduces children to their class and gives them a tour. These first introductions offer a way to become familiar with the school before attendance begins. In March 2024, early years children responded positively to adults and one another.
For additional needs, the academy uses a graduated response: classroom adjustments can be followed by individual or small-group intervention, with specialist involvement where needed. A SEND coordinator and SEND assistant form part of the inclusion team. Parents can begin a discussion with their child's teacher, and the office can arrange a callback from the SEND coordinator. This gives families a clear route into conversations about support. Across the academy, the March 2024 inspection found that additional SEND support was not consistently effective because staff understanding of how to help varied. Families should discuss how staff will meet their child's particular needs.
Collection and emergency arrangements are recorded when a child starts. Families provide authorised collectors and emergency contacts, and must keep these details updated. Trained staff provide first aid; children leaving outside normal collection times must be signed out through the office.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. The academy handles nursery entry, while Reception applications are organised separately by the local authority. Families must apply again through the Council's Common Application Form and meet the normal Reception application deadline.
For children with SEND moving between classes, teachers hold a handover meeting. Where appropriate, children can meet staff and visit their next classroom; a transition photo book may also help them prepare. These arrangements support familiarity with the next stage, separately from admission decisions.
Morning Nursery runs from 8:30am to 11:30am; the afternoon session runs from 12:20pm to 3:20pm. Full-day attendance is another option.
Eligible families can receive 15 hours of funded early education from the term following their child's second birthday. The entitlement covers 38 weeks, totalling 570 hours annually; stretching it across additional weeks depends on discussion with the chosen provider. This is an entitlement description, rather than confirmation of a stretched booking at Limeside.
