Nursery at Cutteslowe Primary School

Play has room to develop here. A purpose-built early years unit anchors the provision at Cutteslowe Primary School, while activities take place inside and outdoors. This is the school's own nursery on Wren Road in Oxford, within a primary school whose age range starts at three.
The approach gives children time to pursue an activity, rather than treating play as a pause between lessons. Adults observe their involvement and adjust the opportunities around them. For parents, that means children's interests help shape the learning alongside activities planned by staff.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings learning and care together. Communication, movement and emotional and social development come first; early number work, literacy, creative expression and understanding the world build alongside them. Activities are adapted to individual children. The emphasis is on exploration, active play and thinking through ideas, rather than a miniature version of formal school lessons.
Adult-led activities sit alongside play that children initiate themselves. Staff watch how children engage, then develop the play and consider their next steps. Children have time to sustain an interest and finish what they have begun, both outside and indoors. This gives the session a balance of adult direction and children's own choices.
Outdoor learning has concrete resources behind it. Cutteslowe School Friends has helped fund bikes for the Nursery and Reception playground. Nursery children also took part in Forest School during February and March 2024, and again in June and July that year. The school grounds include a Forest School site, vegetable beds and woodland pathways; these are school facilities, rather than a description of a separate nursery garden.
Teachers and teaching assistants work within the early years team. Its approach to inclusion covers families of different faiths and backgrounds, with equal opportunities guidance shaping practice. That places participation and individual needs within the everyday learning approach.
Across the school, the Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion leads special educational needs support. Staff receive training on special needs, and external educational specialists contribute when required. The school aims to involve parents in planning support and to review children's needs regularly, giving families a role in decisions about their child's development.
Dolce provides the school's meals, with School Grid handling orders and payments. Parents can view ingredients and nutritional information when selecting dishes. This describes the school's catering arrangements.
Attending Cutteslowe's nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through Oxfordshire County Council by the deadline for their entry year. Nursery applications go directly to the school, so the two processes need separate attention.
For Reception, parents choose three schools in preference order. Applications can be submitted online or on paper, and the school office can help with the process. Familiarity with the school should therefore be kept separate from securing a place.
Morning nursery sessions run from 8:40 to 11:40; afternoon sessions run from 12:10 to 15:10. These are the nursery's times, which families should use when planning their day.
The Nursery Funding Form enables the school to claim 15 funded hours from Oxfordshire County Council. Eligible working families may qualify for a further 15 hours. Sessions are charged where funding does not apply; contact the school for current charges.
To enquire, contact the office on 01865 558944 or email office@cuttesloweprimary.org. Registration uses a Nursery Admissions Application Form alongside the funding form. School tours take place at 9:00am on Tuesdays during term time.
Shoes without laces are requested for nursery children. Waterproof coats matter too: outdoor play continues in different weather. The school can help families with uniform and outdoor clothing, and individual uniform adjustments can be discussed through the office.
