Nursery at Mabe Community Primary School

Stories and rhymes give Mabe's youngest children an early introduction to reading, within a mixed Nursery and Early Years unit. Children can start at three years old. This is the school's own nursery at Cunningham Park in Mabe, Penryn, so its defining arrangement is early education within a shared unit.
Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 3 and 4 December 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating. For parents, the shared unit and the early years judgement are useful starting points when considering the provision.
Reading begins in early years through familiar rhymes and stories. These give children something recognisable to listen to and learn, making books part of their first experience of education. In December 2024, early years children paid close attention when adults read stories. Listening has a clear place in the day.
The early years curriculum also specifies the learning to be introduced and its sequence. For a parent, that means there is a planned order behind what adults teach, rather than activities standing alone. Stories, rhymes and attentive listening are the concrete examples here: the emphasis is on starting reading early and giving children material they can become familiar with.
Families can arrange a conversation with the school's special educational needs and disabilities coordinator (SENDCo) through the office. This provides a direct contact for discussing a child's needs. It is a useful route for parents who want to explain what their child finds difficult or discuss support.
Mabe also has a governor with responsibility for SEND and inclusion. Together, these roles give families a contact for individual questions and a governance role concerned with inclusion. Parents considering the nursery can use the office appointment route to begin that conversation.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the normal deadline. Cornwall Council manages school admissions for Kernow Learning schools, and applications go through its School Admissions service.
Keep the two applications distinct: the school office handles nursery enquiries, while the council handles applications for school places. An informal nursery visit is an opportunity to consider the provision, rather than an allocation of a future Reception place.
To apply to the nursery or arrange an informal visit, contact the school office. Mabe's telephone number is 01326 372662 and its email address is mabe@kernowlearning.co.uk. The school is at Cunningham Park, Mabe, Penryn, Cornwall, TR10 9HB.
For help with the school application process, Cornwall Council's admissions team can be contacted at schooladmissions@cornwall.gov.uk. Families needing help completing an application, understanding the process or communicating in English can also contact the Family Information Service. This separates the practical nursery enquiry from support with the later school application.
