Independence and preparation for reading give Manor Drive’s nursery its clearest character. This is provision for three-year-old children within Manor Drive Primary Academy in Peterborough, rather than a separate nursery setting. The academy occupies a purpose-built school site on Porter Avenue.
At the Ofsted inspection on 13 and 14 May 2025, early years provision was graded Outstanding. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision as a whole; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Reading begins here with preparation for phonics. Nursery children develop the foundations for that next step, making early reading preparation a concrete part of the provision’s educational purpose.
Across early years, the curriculum was carefully planned and teaching highly effective in May 2025. Children sustained their attention during activities and kept trying when something became difficult. The youngest children also developed independence quickly. For parents, those findings describe learning habits as well as curriculum content: concentrating, persisting and beginning to manage tasks for themselves.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) team observes children during play and learning, looking both for what they can already do and where they need help. This gives staff a practical basis for adjusting support to the child, rather than treating every learner’s needs as identical. Nursery also takes part in school events: a joint Nursery and Reception Sports Day took place on 10 June 2026.
Family communication has a named channel: the Tapestry Online Learning Journal. Staff use it to record children’s development and learning, while parents can contribute experiences and achievements from home. That two-way exchange helps the team understand a child beyond the activities they see in school.
Support for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) starts with observation and conversations with families. EYFS staff share information with parents from the outset and listen to their views. Support can include work in small groups, individual strategies and targeted help with communication, managing emotions or social interaction. External professionals are involved where appropriate, so additional help can draw on expertise beyond the classroom team.
Settling and transitions involve early information sharing with families. The school aims to help children feel secure and ready to learn as they join EYFS or move between stages within the school. This makes parents’ knowledge of their child part of the preparation, rather than leaving staff to build that picture only after the child starts.
Attending the nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal Reception admissions process. For residents of the Peterborough local authority area, that route is through Peterborough Local Authority.
For the September 2026 intake, the application deadline was 16 January 2026. That cycle is now past. Transition support and admissions are separate matters: sharing information to help a child settle does not secure an allocation.
