Learning to talk confidently, work alongside other children and do more for themselves gives Girnhill’s early years provision its character. In May 2024, children developed confidence and independence, with learning habits taking shape quickly. Those are useful foundations for a child beginning school life.
The nursery belongs to Featherstone Girnhill Infant School on Hardwick Road in Featherstone. Girnhill belongs to Inspire Partnership Multi-Academy Trust, placing its nursery within a wider network of schools and staff development.
Indoor and outdoor activities both contribute to early learning here. In May 2024, children sustained their attention and showed interest in activities in both environments. They also worked cooperatively with one another. For parents, that gives a picture of learning through participation: concentrating on a task, sharing the experience with other children and becoming more independent.
Early years staff planned activities that helped children develop their language and their ability to manage things for themselves. Communication therefore has a practical purpose alongside learning: children build the confidence to take part. The emphasis connects social development with the skills children use during activities.
Across Inspire Partnership, the named CHAT approach sets out ambitions for confident conversation, work of a high standard, achievement and fluency in practical skills. These are the trust’s aims, rather than a separate nursery inspection judgement. Its early years curriculum has also been developed across the trust. This gives Girnhill a wider curriculum context while the May 2024 findings provide the specific picture of children’s learning here.
Cooperation and growing independence matter to everyday care as well as learning. The May 2024 early years findings describe children becoming more confident and working together successfully. For a parent choosing a first school setting, those findings speak directly to how children participate alongside their peers.
Support also has a trust-level structure. Inspire Partnership’s inclusion team works across its schools, provides training for staff and leaders, and runs group consultations. That creates a route for staff to discuss challenges and develop their practice.
Early Years and SEND staff networks meet every half term across the trust. These bring staff together around their areas of work, giving nursery practice a wider professional context. They are staff development arrangements, rather than a promise of a particular intervention for an individual child.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as two separate decisions, even when hoping to remain at Girnhill.
