A covered outdoor play area gives Ollies Nursery a practical advantage: children can keep playing outside when the weather turns. Its purpose-built, refurbished unit belongs to Goosnargh Oliverson's Church of England Primary School on Goosnargh Lane in Goosnargh, Preston. This is the school's own nursery provision, with an outdoor environment designed for play and learning.
In June 2024, the school provided early education from age two. Ofsted's inspection on 19 and 20 June 2024 found that nursery children got off to a strong educational start. That finding concerns their early learning; it does not give the nursery a separate inspection grade.
Language develops through familiar activities. In June 2024, nursery children expanded their vocabulary by taking part in songs, stories and rhymes. These give young children concrete ways to join in and practise words, making language development part of shared activity.
The early years foundation stage here includes learning about other people as well as discovering the surrounding world. Two-year-olds practised sharing with others and waiting for their turn. Staff interactions supported children's curiosity. Together, these findings describe early learning through conversation and participation, with social skills developing alongside vocabulary.
Outside, the covered play space extends the nursery's opportunities for learning in different weather. It is a useful physical feature for families who value outdoor play: the space has shelter rather than relying entirely on dry conditions.
Support for additional needs sits within the school's inclusion arrangements. The school aims to assess and identify children's needs, working with families and professionals to plan support. Its approach includes staff training and an ambition for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to participate fully in school life. For parents, that makes discussion of an individual child's needs part of the relationship with the school.
Safeguarding has a visible physical presence: posters around school identify whom children, adults and visitors can approach with concerns. This gives families a clear point of contact when something worries them.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and does not confer admissions priority. Families must make a separate Reception application through Lancashire County Council's online route, with a closing date of 15 January.
Allocation depends on the admissions criteria, including care status, qualifying medical or social circumstances, residence and siblings. Nursery attendance is not a criterion. Choosing Ollies should therefore be a decision about the nursery experience itself, while the Reception application remains a separate task.
For nursery enquiries, contact the school office at office@oliversons.co.uk or telephone 01772 865396. The nursery welcomes conversations with interested families and offers visits. A look around provides an opportunity to see the purpose-built unit and its covered outdoor area before deciding whether the setting suits your child.
