Sand, water and a classroom stay-and-play give Little Saints its own identity within All Saints. This term-time preschool nursery serves children aged three and four at the Church of England school in Hesketh Bank. Full days and half days allow families to arrange attendance around different weekly patterns.
Little Saints sits within the school's early years provision. Its outdoor area supports imaginative and physical play, giving children space to explore materials and practise movement alongside classroom learning. The current school has no Ofsted graded rating yet.
Play shapes the learning here. Little Saints follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with practical experiences and children's interests helping to direct activities. In parent language, that means learning through doing, talking and exploring, alongside tasks guided by adults.
Children can choose how they use the learning environment, while adult-led activities are completed during the week. Staff make daily observations and assemble a personal learning journey using photographs and information about each child. Those records help them plan what the child should work on next, linking individual interests with future activities.
Outside, sand and water provide concrete materials for physical and imaginative play. Creative learning also includes experimenting with tools, materials, texture and colour within the early years art curriculum. Cornerstones provides the framework for this topic-based art work. For children who choose to use it, Mini Mash adds a digital activity option within Little Saints.
Settling starts before the first nursery day. Each child is invited to spend one hour playing in the classroom alongside children already attending. That creates an opportunity to meet peers and become familiar with the room before starting.
Families are then offered a home visit, usually during the first few days of term. It gives staff time to discuss the child's interests, preferences and support needs with parents in familiar surroundings. This induction can mean that nursery children begin a day or two after the rest of the school at the September, January and April starts.
Hot lunches come from the school kitchen, with Lancashire School Meals Service involved in the meal provision. Nursery lunches carry an additional charge. ParentPay handles orders and payments, and families can instead send a packed lunch. Ordering together helps a child know what to expect at lunchtime.
A Friday email update covers learning in Little Saints and the wider early years provision. Families can also contact the EYFS team by email. For additional needs, the school's SEND arrangements include a coordinating teacher and governing-board oversight; the school says parents participate fully in decisions about their child's support. Child-protection concerns should go promptly to the designated safeguarding lead or a deputy.
Attending Little Saints does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat choosing a nursery place and applying for school as two separate decisions.
Morning sessions run from 8.45am to 11.45am; afternoons run from 12.20pm to 3.20pm. Nursery lunchtime is 11.45am to 12.20pm. A half day represents three hours and a full day six hours, with lunch optional.
For the free 15-hour early years funding arrangement, full or half days are agreed in advance with the headteacher. Full-time sessions are available to three- and four-year-olds eligible for free 30-hour funding. Families using another nursery must tell the office. Under the 15-hour arrangement, the funded entitlement can only be claimed once, and attendance beyond a total of 15 hours requires payment.
For nursery enquiries or to arrange a visit, call the school office on 01772 812630. Contact the school for current charges. Children are collected and dropped off at classroom doors; tell staff if someone different will collect your child or if you are delayed. The school car park cannot be used for these journeys, and a public car park is next door.
