Honey Bees gives children aged 3 to 4 an early foothold in school life, with the nursery team working alongside Discovery, the school's EYFS class. This is school-attached provision at Hoole St Michael CofE Primary School in Much Hoole, rather than a separate nursery setting.
The strongest distinction is between care and curriculum. Ofsted's January 2026 inspection judged early years Needs attention, while recognising supportive relationships and successful settling. For parents, that makes the organisation of learning as important a consideration as the welcome children receive.
The nursery and EYFS timetable follows a recognisable school-day rhythm. Registration starts at 8.50am, followed by a first learning session and a morning break. Phonics or a second session follows, with lunchtime running from 11.45am to 1pm. Afternoon learning and another break lead into storytime or worship from 2.50pm to 3.10pm. The school day finishes at 3.20pm.
EYFS means the Early Years Foundation Stage. Its starting points here are learning to communicate, moving with increasing control, and developing friendships and confidence with feelings. Creative work combines activities children choose with adult guidance: exploring how materials feel, experimenting with colour and learning to handle simple tools. These give young children practical ways to express ideas before writing becomes their main means of recording them.
Outdoor learning has tangible resources. The school grounds contain a Forest School area, an outdoor classroom, gardening plots and a fenced pond for observing nature. Each class has a weekly opportunity to use Forest School, bringing learning beyond the classroom.
In January 2026, however, early-years learning lacked a sufficiently clear sequence. Staff sometimes devised activities in response to broad themes rather than following detailed plans. Adaptations also failed to meet some disadvantaged children's starting points, including those with SEND. Parents should weigh the activities against whether learning builds steadily and suits their child.
Relationships with families helped children settle promptly in January 2026. Adults offered reassurance and encouragement, and conversations during learning supported children's language development. Care was a positive feature even where curriculum planning needed attention.
Class Dojo provides daily learning updates and lets parents message teachers directly. That gives families a way to continue conversations about the day and raise concerns between meetings. The school also uses a home-time arrangements form to identify authorised collectors; families need to keep those details updated.
For SEND discussions, the school coordinator can be contacted at senco@hoole.lancs.sch.uk. The January 2026 early-years findings make the detail of individual curriculum adaptations a useful focus for those conversations.
Attending Honey Bees does not guarantee a Reception place. Nursery and Reception admission are separate: families must apply again through the normal Reception process by its normal deadline. Treat the nursery choice and the later school application as two decisions, even though children are already familiar with school life.
Doors open at 8.45am, ahead of the 8.50am start. These are nursery and EYFS timetable hours, rather than a description of bookable nursery session packages.
Initial enquiries go to the school bursar at bursar@hoole.lancs.sch.uk, or telephone 01772 613219. School visits can be arranged by appointment. The setting is on Liverpool Old Road, Much Hoole, Preston, PR4 5JQ.
