Nursery at Kingsfold Primary School

Relationships and familiar routines give Kingsfold’s early years its character. In November 2022, children were developing positive learning habits, forming close relationships with teachers and taking part readily in activities. That matters for a child learning to manage time away from home: the adults and the rhythm of the day are part of the learning too.
Kingsfold’s nursery belongs to the primary school on Martinfield Road in Penwortham. Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 29 and 30 November 2022. This judgement covers early years within the school.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) connects learning with children’s development. Its seven areas include language, physical development and emotional and social skills, alongside literacy, mathematics, creative expression and understanding the world. For parents, that means learning to listen, handle materials and manage feelings belongs alongside learning about words and numbers.
Practical mathematics uses activities to explore numbers and patterns. Creative learning involves experimenting with materials and expressing ideas, while understanding the world includes nature, communities and the past. Kingsfold aims to encourage children to think for themselves and try different ways of completing their work. Termly learning includes vocabulary and life skills, giving those ambitions specific content.
Outdoor space forms part of the wider school setting. The grounds contain an outdoor classroom and a fenced woodland area beside the field. These are concrete features to look at during a school visit when considering the surroundings in which the nursery sits.
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) were included in the positive early years findings in November 2022. They participated in learning and developed relationships with teachers. The significance is practical: the early years assessment included children who needed additional support, rather than describing only one group’s experience.
Emotional learning also has named programmes. myHappymind extends from Early Years through the school; Kingsfold describes its purpose as helping children develop confidence, resilience and self-esteem. Its modules include Appreciate, Relate and Meet your brain.
SCARF provides personal, social and health education, with learning adapted by age from EYFS onwards. Topics include feelings, personal safety, relationships and seeking help. This gives care a teaching dimension: children learn about expressing concerns as well as managing their emotions.
A separate application. Attending Kingsfold’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through the normal Reception admissions process by the applicable deadline. Choosing nursery provision and securing a school place are separate decisions; nursery attendance should not be treated as an allocation promise.
