Learning to listen, cooperate and find a place in a group gives Moor Nook’s early years its clearest character. In December 2022, children picked up routines readily and worked considerately with others. These are useful foundations for a child’s first experience of school life: learning includes how to be together as well as what to know.
Nursery provision forms part of Moor Nook Community Primary School on Ribbleton Hall Drive in Preston, with the school’s age range beginning at three. Ofsted judged early years provision Good at the inspection on 13 and 14 December 2022. That judgement covers the school’s early years, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
The early years curriculum was broad and balanced in December 2022, and supported children’s development and learning. For parents, the useful distinction is breadth: this provision sits within a school curriculum that includes its youngest learners, rather than treating their education as an afterthought.
Listening and cooperation are concrete parts of that learning. In December 2022, early years children paid attention to adults, understood routines quickly and worked well with classmates. Those habits matter during shared activities, when children need to hear instructions and take account of someone else’s ideas.
C.A.R.E. names the school’s guiding values: equality, resilience, creativity and aspiration. Moor Nook aims for children to feel that they belong while developing imagination and the confidence to keep trying. Its youngest children are learning in new classrooms, giving the early years a physical place within the school’s changing learning environment.
Respect is part of the early years experience. In December 2022, children learned its importance and showed consideration towards adults and other children. For a family choosing a first group setting, that makes social development a meaningful part of the picture.
For special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), families have a direct contact through the school’s SENDCo. Telephone 01772 796009 or email senco@moornook.lancs.sch.uk to make contact. This gives parents a specific person’s role to approach when discussing their child’s needs, rather than relying on a general enquiry alone.
Attending Moor Nook’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Nursery admission and Reception admission are separate processes: families must apply again through the normal Reception application route by the normal deadline. Choosing the nursery should therefore be a decision about the child’s nursery experience, with the later school application treated as a separate practical responsibility.
The school office is the enquiry route, on 01772 796009 or bursar@moornook.lancs.sch.uk. Moor Nook is on Ribbleton Hall Drive, Ribbleton, Preston, PR2 6EE.
Prospective families are welcome to visit and meet the team. A visit gives parents an opportunity to see the learning spaces and discuss their child’s needs in person. For current charges, contact the school directly.
