An allotment for growing food and a Forest School area give Little Saints Nursery a concrete outdoor focus. This is the nursery at New Longton All Saints CofE Primary School, serving children aged 3–4 with 16 places per session. Its classroom adjoins the school's EYFS class, putting nursery provision alongside the wider early years unit.
The school’s Church of England character shapes its aims. Little Saints links learning to the All Saints Way and aims to help children become independent, resilient and confident. For parents, the distinctive combination is a nursery classroom of its own with access to school spaces and activities, including nativity plays.
Learning follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). This brings together early communication, physical development and relationships with literacy, mathematics, creative expression and understanding the world. Playing, exploring and thinking through ideas are part of that approach, so learning extends beyond adult-directed tasks.
Development Matters guides the nursery mathematics curriculum. That gives the youngest children their own planning approach. Across the EYFS, the emphasis includes active learning and trying out ideas, alongside the skills children need to communicate and participate.
Indoor space is only part of the picture. Children use outdoor learning spaces, learn in the Forest School area and grow food in the allotment. These are specific opportunities to explore the natural world and take part in practical activity. Access extends to the school grounds and other school facilities, while the adjoining classroom keeps the nursery within the early years unit.
An EYFS lead oversees the unit, with nursery staffing including teaching assistant and higher level teaching assistant roles. Parents receive learning updates through Tapestry. Families are also encouraged to share experiences from home through it, giving staff something familiar to discuss with their child.
Lunch can be a school dinner or a packed lunch. Snack or toast is an optional charged extra, and children may bring their own snack instead. For those attending Oaky’s Club before nursery, breakfast choices include fruit, cereals, crumpets and wholemeal toast. After-school care includes drinks and snacks.
For SEND discussions, families can arrange a telephone appointment through the office or make contact by email. This provides a direct route to the school's support team when a child has additional needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal Reception process, using Lancashire County Council’s online application route.
For children starting school in September 2027, the application window runs from September 2026 to January 2027. Treat that application as a separate task from arranging nursery sessions. Having a child already at Little Saints does not remove the need to apply again.
Morning sessions run from 8.45am to 11.45am, and afternoon sessions finish at 3.15pm. A lunch session sits between them. Little Saints accepts the 15-hour and 30-hour funded entitlements and allows flexibility in how hours are used across the week. Additional hours can be purchased, and funded hours can also be used for Oaky’s Club.
Before-school nursery care starts at 7.30am; the nursery's after-school option runs from 3.30pm to 6pm. Book and pay for Oaky’s through the child’s MCAS account at least one working day ahead; same-day bookings are also possible but incur an administration charge. Collection must meet the time on the booking form.
