Little Adders gives two-year-olds their own named provision alongside Adderlane Academy’s Nursery. Based on Broomhill Road in Prudhoe, these are the school’s preschool provisions, with separate registration routes for each. The two-year-old room is a concrete distinction for families choosing an early start within a school setting.
Language, basic skills and emotional wellbeing shape the school’s curriculum priorities. Adderlane aims to develop children’s independence and confidence, with learning planned to build on what they already know. For parents, the emphasis is on the foundations children will use as their education continues.
Books, nursery rhymes and mathematics have their own strands within the early years planning. Learning is organised across the year and into half-term blocks, rather than treated as a collection of disconnected activities. Adderlane aims to map knowledge and skills across the early years so that children are prepared for their next stage.
Counting has an audible place in nursery life. At the June 2025 inspection, nursery children showed their enthusiasm through singing and jumping during favourite number rhymes. It is a useful example of learning that combines words, numbers and movement.
Across the school, developing spoken language is an explicit priority: adults introduce vocabulary and sentence structures to help children express themselves. The curriculum also includes planned outdoor learning. These priorities connect learning with both communication and experience, although they should not be mistaken for a fixed nursery timetable.
Welcome visits provide an opportunity to discuss toilet training with nursery staff. Families are asked to work towards potty training before their child starts wherever possible; children who are still learning can receive advice and help from the nursery team. This makes the welcome conversation useful for a practical care need, as well as an introduction.
Staff across Adderlane have training in Emotion Coaching, an approach intended to help children recognise and manage feelings. Family support can address bedtime and morning routines, emotional wellbeing and the needs of children with SEND at home. Parents can contact the office to be connected with the appropriate member of staff.
Communication includes a school messaging service. Meals are prepared in the school’s own kitchens, with most dishes made using fresh, seasonal ingredients. That describes the school’s catering approach, rather than a promise about an individual nursery child’s meal arrangements.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through Northumberland’s local authority admissions team. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as two distinct decisions.
The early years curriculum aims to prepare children for their next educational stage by building knowledge and skills. That educational preparation is separate from the allocation of school places.
Nursery mornings run from 08:50 to 12:00, with a longer day running from 08:50 to 15:10. Those timings give families two different collection points to consider when organising their day.
Adderlane offers 30 hours of funded early education and childcare for eligible two-, three- and four-year-olds, alongside some unfunded places. Eligibility does not guarantee a place with a particular provider or a particular attendance pattern.
Registration routes distinguish Little Adders from Nursery. For enquiries, contact the school office on 01661 833 996 or use the contact form.
