Songs, rhymes and learning to take turns give St Bede's nursery its character: language and getting along with other children are part of the same early learning experience. This is the nursery within St Bede's Catholic Primary School on Redcar Road in Marske-by-Sea, where the school's age range starts at three.
The nursery teacher also holds the EYFS lead role, linking classroom teaching with leadership of the early years foundation stage. Ofsted judged early years provision Good at the inspection on 2 and 3 November 2022. That judgement covers the school's early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Play and more structured learning sit alongside each other. In November 2022, children in early years switched comfortably between the two, in an environment organised to support that movement. Nursery songs and rhymes developed listening and speech. For a young child, this makes joining in with a song part of learning to communicate.
The early years foundation stage, or EYFS, is delivered through a thematic curriculum, connecting activities around a topic. Spark Event introductions are intended to stir children's interest at the beginning of topics. The school emphasises active participation and opportunities to talk, so children can explain their thinking as well as use their imagination.
Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised is the phonics programme, with teaching beginning in Nursery. Nursery activities focus on listening to sounds in the environment, voices and instruments, alongside rhyme and rhythm. Children also practise combining spoken sounds into words and separating words into sounds. These are listening foundations for learning to read.
Catholic teaching also shapes the day. Come and See includes children of every age and ability. Within Life to the Full, early years learning explores caring for the body, recognising individual differences and saying sorry. Relationships activities include resolving disagreements; safety learning covers medicines and the people who help in emergencies. These give everyday friendship and safety questions a place in learning.
In November 2022, adults demonstrated kindness and turn-taking directly to nursery children. The practical emphasis matters: children learn how to share social space through adult examples.
A school SEND coordinator provides a contact for families discussing special educational needs or disabilities. Across the school, accessibility adaptations include wheelchair access, lifts and disabled toilets. These are school facilities, so their relevance depends on the child's needs and the spaces they use.
Caterlink is the trust's school catering partner, and school menus follow a three-week rotation. This describes the wider school meal service rather than establishing a nursery lunch arrangement.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the Local Authority Common Application Form and complete the Catholic school's Supplementary Information Form. Both must be returned by the local authority's closing date.
Application paperwork. Omitting the supplementary form can affect the category assigned to an application. Parents are responsible for supplying the forms and supporting evidence, and reminders are not sent. Keep the Reception application separate from arrangements for attending nursery.
Morning nursery runs from 8:30am to 11:30am; the afternoon session is 12:15pm to 3:15pm. These session boundaries are the useful starting point for planning collection and other childcare.

Winter options include navy jogging bottoms or a grey pinafore with grey tights. Summer alternatives include shorts or a blue gingham dress.
