Nursery at Rampton Primary School

School routines begin at two in Nestlings, Rampton Primary School’s provision for 2-year-olds. Play, growing independence and learning to cooperate give this nursery its character. It sits within the school’s early years provision on Retford Road in Rampton.
There is an important distinction between care and teaching here. In February 2026, personal, social and emotional development was a strength across the early years, but the early years judgement was Needs attention.
Learning involves bodies as well as words. In the Explorers early years activities, Write Dance uses movement to develop coordination for writing. Friday afternoons include Show and Tell, giving children an opportunity to share something special with their class. Children are also encouraged to manage dressing themselves, making practical independence part of the learning day.
The projects give familiar surroundings a purpose. Let’s Explore introduces the classroom and school grounds, then takes children’s thinking towards their locality, holidays and making journey maps. Me and My Community explores families, friendships and people who help others, including emergency services. These activities connect early learning with experiences children can recognise and discuss.
Outdoor experiences have included a six-week Forest School programme with Retford Family Hub. Nursery children took part alongside parents, exploring nature and working together; the programme ended with marshmallow toasting around a bonfire. This was a specific programme, rather than a promise of ongoing sessions.
Teaching consistency. In February 2026, adult interactions did not reliably develop children’s vocabulary, understanding or further learning. Letter formation was inconsistent, and writing tasks were often beyond children’s current knowledge. Strengthening interactions and securing foundations in writing and mathematics were explicit priorities. For parents, the substance of adult guidance matters as much as the activity itself.
Relationships are a stronger feature. In February 2026, early years staff cared for children well and gave close attention to emotional and social development. Children participated keenly in play and learning, with increasing independence and cooperation. This gives the youngest children a supported introduction to the expectations of school life.
Staff and parents shared an understanding of children’s development across home and school. Explorers families also receive a weekly challenge through Class Dojo, providing a concrete connection with classroom learning. For families wanting to discuss additional needs, meetings with the school’s SEND coordinator can be arranged through the school. That offers a direct starting point for discussing an individual child’s support.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Familiarity with school routines is useful preparation, but it does not secure admission. Treat the choice of nursery and the application for Reception as separate decisions.
Nestlings uniform can be ordered through Logo Leisure Wear. This is a nursery-specific practical detail, so families can distinguish it from the school uniform offer.
School visits can be arranged by contacting the office. Email office@rampton.notts.sch.uk or telephone 01777 248251 to make an enquiry or arrange a viewing. A visit gives families an opportunity to see the team at work and consider the provision alongside the February 2026 priorities for early years teaching.
