At a Glance

Sharing, cooperation and joining in with a story give Malvern Way’s nursery its clearest character. Children learn to work together from the Nursery Year onwards, making social learning part of the experience rather than simply preparation for later schooling.

This is the nursery within Malvern Way Infant and Nursery School in Croxley Green. For the 2026/27 nursery intake, the eligible birth dates were 1 September 2022 to 31 August 2023. In February 2025, Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Outstanding. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.

The Nursery Day

Two session patterns give families a clear practical choice: a morning ending before lunch or a longer day extending into the afternoon. Both begin at the same time, so the difference is how much of the day a child spends at nursery.

Stories bring children together. In February 2025, children in early years enjoyed participating in the shared class story, helping build their interest in books. Cooperation has an equally concrete place: children practise sharing and working with others from nursery onwards. For parents, these are useful signs of a day that includes learning alongside other children as well as listening together.

The school describes its curriculum as active, shaped with children and centred on the arts. Outdoor learning spaces support subjects across the school, alongside experiences indoors. This gives the nursery a wider school context that values learning beyond the classroom.

Care and Support

An Early Years Leader and an Inclusion Leader form part of the school’s staff structure. Pastoral support also sits within a teaching assistant role, giving care and inclusion identifiable places in the wider team.

Learning to share is relevant here too: cooperation begins in the Nursery Year, so relationships with other children are part of the nursery experience. In February 2025, the school’s safeguarding arrangements were effective. This was a school-wide finding, covering the setting in which the nursery operates.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through Hertfordshire County Council. Choosing this nursery therefore means making one decision about the nursery day and another application for the next stage.

For September 2026 Reception entry, applications closed on 15 January 2026. That deadline belongs to the past admissions cycle. Keep the separate Reception application in your planning rather than treating a nursery place as an allocation for the following year.

Practical Information

The morning session runs from 8.45am to 11.45am and provides 15 hours per week. The longer option runs from 8.45am to 3.15pm, with 30 hours per week where parents qualify. Eligibility matters: the longer pattern is not an unconditional funded entitlement for every family.

An 11.45am finish requires a different collection plan from a 3.15pm finish. Choose the pattern around the hours you need and, for the longer option, whether you qualify.

For nursery entry from 2027/28 onwards, families can register interest using the Nursery Enquiry Form. The school then contacts them nearer the time. General enquiries can go to admin@malvernway.herts.sch.uk or 01923 773430.
