A start at two, followed by the Bumblebees nursery class, gives Maltby Lilly Hall Academy’s youngest children a distinct early years pathway. The two-year-old provision and nursery operate under the school’s registration on Lilly Hall Road, Maltby, S66 8AB. This is the nursery’s address, separate from the academy’s Cliff Hill address.
The April 2026 Ofsted judgement for early years was Strong standard. It covers the school’s early years provision, rather than being a separate nursery rating. For parents choosing an early start, the meaningful detail is that the youngest children settled readily and developed curiosity about their learning.
Learning builds in stages, with the early years curriculum matched to children’s development and abilities. In everyday terms, the emphasis is on learning to communicate, becoming more independent and tackling problems. Adult interaction carries weight here: trained staff use their exchanges with children to develop these skills.
Children develop their language quickly and learn to work together. That combination matters for nursery life: expressing an idea and collaborating with another child are useful foundations for participating in learning. Resilience is another focus, alongside the confidence to do more for themselves.
Across early years, staff change the indoor and outdoor learning spaces in response to children’s developing skills and knowledge. The environment therefore changes alongside the children. Baking, a December theatre visit and a farm animal visit are nursery enrichment activities with separate charges, adding practical experiences beyond the curriculum’s developmental focus.
Settling is a strength of the two-year-old provision in the April 2026 findings. The youngest children became absorbed in learning and were prepared for the nursery year. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and disadvantaged children, received substantial care and support that helped them participate in the curriculum.
For a developmental concern, the first contact is the class teacher, who involves the SEND coordinator. Families help agree the next steps. Where SEN support is needed, an Individual Education Plan or One Page Profile records the approach, with three SEND support reviews each year. This gives parents repeated opportunities to discuss how support is working.
ABM Catering manages the academy’s catering. Families whose child has special dietary requirements, including food allergies, can complete a Special Dietary Request Form and hand it to the school reception.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process. The local authority coordinates applications on behalf of Maltby Learning Trust, the admissions authority. Apply through the Local Authority School Admissions Team. Keep that application separate from arranging nursery attendance.
The nursery’s universal funded entitlement is 15 hours a week during term time, with another 15 hours for eligible working parents. Up to 15 additional hours can be purchased where parents do not qualify for the extra entitlement, or have used their entitlement with additional provision outside term time.
Charges also cover specific enrichment and baking consumables. Parents who prefer to supply their own consumables can discuss the next steps with the nursery. Contact the academy for current charges.
