A purpose-built nursery, an enclosed walkway to the main school and a covered outdoor play area give Park Road's youngest children a distinct base with close school connections. Children can join in the term after their third birthday, subject to space. The standard allocation is 26 morning places and 26 afternoon places; full-time attendance depends on surplus capacity.
Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Outstanding at its inspection on 5 and 6 March 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Three-hour morning or afternoon sessions centre on planned play. Children begin working with numbers and developing the foundations for reading, giving those first school experiences a learning purpose. Within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the concrete nursery emphasis is on play, early number work and language through songs and rhymes.
Rhymes and songs introduce children to the enjoyment of reading from Nursery. In March 2024, the early years curriculum was ambitious and prepared children exceptionally well for later learning. The emphasis is on building foundations before the next stage.
Outside, nursery children share a play area with Reception, including a sheltered section. This provides a shared physical connection between the two age groups. Nursery staff also work in the main school, linking their work with children's subsequent learning and allowing teaching to follow each child's development.
Settling starts before the first session: families bring their child for a familiarisation visit to meet the team. New starters then join in small groups on different days. Each EYFS child is assigned a key person, providing a specific adult connection within the team. In March 2024, children in early years adapted quickly to routines and expectations.
Full-time children bring a packed lunch. Families therefore need to plan lunch as well as the longer day.
Additional needs can be identified through contact with a child's health visitor when they enter nursery, alongside information from parents and previous settings. Concerns go first to the class teacher, with SENDCO involvement as needed. Support follows Assess, Plan, Do, Review, and support plans are revisited each half term with family input. Teachers and teaching assistants have paediatric first aid training; children with medical needs have individual healthcare plans specifying their care.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Trafford's coordinated admissions process. The usual deadline is 15 January; check the deadline for the relevant intake. For the 2026–2027 admission year, nursery attendance confers no priority under the Reception allocation criteria.
Familiarity and admission are separate matters. The shared outdoor area creates continuity, while transition opportunities include time with future teachers in the new classroom, classroom pictures and videos of teachers reading stories. Extra visits support children with additional needs. These help children prepare emotionally for a change of class; they do not secure a place.
The nursery day runs from 8:55am to 3:30pm. The 15-hour pattern comprises five morning or five afternoon sessions, subject to availability, with daily attendance rather than part-week or ad hoc nursery bookings.
Longer days. Full-time places depend on available sessions. Eligible families can use 30-hour funding, but the additional half-hour of daily attendance carries a separate charge. Funding codes must be supplied to school and rechecked by parents every three months. Payments are due ahead of each half term, and withdrawal requires half a term's notice. Contact the office for current charges.
KidsClub extends care with breakfast sessions from 7:50am to 8:55am and after-school sessions from 3:30pm to 5:55pm. Book through My Child At School (MCAS); nursery children are escorted from their classroom to the main hall after school.
