Nursery at Owlsmoor Primary School

Five sessions chosen across the week give Owlsmoor’s nursery its practical character: families can combine morning and afternoon attendance, with children also able to stay all day. This is the nursery within Owlsmoor Primary School on Cambridge Road in Sandhurst, part of The Circle Trust.
The day has two clear blocks. Morning sessions run from 9am to noon, followed by afternoon sessions from noon to 3pm. Choosing sessions across the week lets families arrange attendance around their other commitments rather than follow a single morning-only pattern.
Lunch matters when choosing that pattern. Children attending in the afternoon, including those staying for the whole day, need a packed lunch. Families therefore supply the meal for either arrangement.
For children with additional needs, the school’s support process begins with a conversation with their teacher or the special educational needs coordinator (SENDCo). Parents can raise concerns between scheduled meetings. Two Family Support Advisors also help with difficulties affecting home life or the relationship between home and school, giving families another point of contact.
Support follows a repeating cycle: staff assess a child’s needs, agree a plan, put it into practice and review how it is working. Where a child needs SEND support, the SENDCo works with parents on an Individual Learning Plan. Reviews take place every six weeks, with the teacher meeting parents to discuss targets and the next steps. This gives families a regular opportunity to contribute their knowledge of their child.
Across the school, adaptations can include extra processing time, visual timetables and small-group teaching. Speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists are among the professionals staff can involve when needed. These are responses to individual needs, rather than a fixed package for every child.
Physical accessibility measures across the school include accessible toilets, wider doorways and changes to classroom layouts. For prospective pupils with SEND, a meeting with the SENDCo allows adjustments to be planned before they join. A Team Around the Child meeting can bring together information from professionals already supporting a child.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no priority for the September 2027 intake. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority, naming Owlsmoor as a preference, by 15 January 2027. Choosing the nursery and applying for Reception are separate decisions.
Once a place has been accepted and allocations have reached the school, families are contacted about enrolment and transition dates. Additional transition help for pupils who need it can include social stories, transition booklets and ELSA sessions. That support concerns preparation for change; it does not alter admission priority.
Nursery doors open at 8:45am, ahead of the 9am morning session. Parents choose five sessions across the week. The distinction between door-opening time and session time is useful when planning the morning journey.
Nursery applications use a nursery application form. For enquiries, contact the school on 01344 776642; admissions emails should include Owlsmoor in the subject line. School tours can be booked, providing an opportunity to see the setting before applying.
