Nursery at Uplands Primary School and Nursery

Bridge building and collage making give Uplands Nursery a practical starting point: children are encouraged to design something, build it and test it. This is the nursery provision within Uplands Primary School and Nursery on Albion Road in Sandhurst. Its staffing includes a nursery class teacher and a nursery manager, placing early learning within the school's team structure.
Making and testing are concrete parts of the nursery curriculum. Children tackle large structures, including bridges, alongside smaller creations such as collages. These activities give children something tangible to work on, with testing part of the task rather than construction alone.
Learning follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Here, early learning includes turning ideas into objects: children practise designing, making and testing through bridge building and collage projects. Alongside it, Uplands uses its own PRIME curriculum to guide planning. The school explains this through Purpose, Relationships, Impact, Metacognition and Experiences. Its aims include helping children understand why they are learning something, connect ideas and think about how they learn. For parents, the emphasis is on the purpose and process of learning as well as its content.
Technology also reaches the nursery. Children have access to tablets, laptops and Bee-Bots, while classrooms have SMART boards. These are specific resources within the learning environment, rather than technology being reserved for older pupils.
SEND oversight extends explicitly to the nursery. The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator also leads inclusion across the school and nursery, giving families a contact through the main office for discussions about additional needs.
Uplands aims to recognise children needing extra help early and to involve both children and parents in reviewing targets. Its stated approach includes individual support, work in small groups and support within the whole class. That gives families several forms of support to discuss, rather than treating additional help as a single arrangement.
The wider SEND and inclusion team includes teaching staff and a Family Support Advisor who is ELSA-trained. At school level, Uplands also works with Speech and Language Therapists and the Sensory Consortium, which supports children with hearing and sight loss. These relationships provide specific starting points for conversations about communication or sensory needs; they do not imply that every child receives those services.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate school application through Bracknell Forest Council's School Admissions Department, using the normal application route and meeting the applicable deadline. Nursery applications, by contrast, are handled by Uplands itself. Treat these as two separate decisions: choosing the nursery and applying for a school place.
The Nursery Enquiry Form is the direct route for an initial enquiry, and Uplands processes nursery applications. Families can also contact the office at office@uplandsberkshire.org or on 01252 873069. The nursery's address is Albion Road, Sandhurst, Berkshire, GU47 9BP. These contact routes serve both general enquiries and access to the SEND co-ordinator through the school office.
Complete the Nursery Enquiry Form. Nursery applications are processed by Uplands Primary School and Nursery.
