Indoor and outdoor play, with adults helping children follow their interests, gives this nursery its character. For three- and four-year-olds at Luddington & Garthorpe Primary, the day includes time to choose activities rather than following a fixed sequence throughout. Plans can change with children's interests and school events.
The nursery sits within the school's Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision. Its team includes an EYFS teacher and an Early Years Practitioner, giving families distinct teaching and care roles within the early years team.
Children have substantial time to explore learning activities indoors and outside, supported by adults as they pursue their own ideas. This is continuous provision: activities children can return to and develop through play. Provision is adjusted around their interests and next learning steps, so choices made during play help shape what comes next. Thursday is currently the EYFS PE day.
The EYFS curriculum connects learning with everyday development. Communication, managing feelings and relationships, and physical skills sit alongside early literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and creative expression. Children explore materials and textures, make music, sing and use imaginative play. Mathematical learning includes comparing objects and exploring shape, capacity and measurement, connecting early concepts with things children can handle and discuss.
Little Wandle is the phonics scheme, with daily phonics across Early Years. Reading also has a clear place in the educational approach: in March 2023, Ofsted identified reading as a priority spanning early years and the wider school. That gives language and early reading a place alongside the child-led activity, rather than treating play as the whole curriculum.
Practical care needs are part of preparation for the day. Families pack a complete change of clothes, including underwear and socks, and supply nappies, wipes and disposal bags where applicable. A labelled water bottle is also needed. Class Dojo provides a class connection for parents.
School lunch arrangements allow a packed lunch or a school meal booked ahead. Food is prepared in the school's kitchen. The school aims for menus that balance healthy eating with children's preferences; families can discuss special dietary requirements with kitchen staff through the office. The school is nut free, a practical consideration when packing food.
Medical conditions should be shared promptly, with a meeting to complete a medical plan and copies of relevant medical letters supplied. Medication requires an office form. When staff administer it, Medical Tracker records the dose and time and sends parents a notification, providing a direct update about this aspect of care.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate school application through North Lincolnshire Council; the nursery application goes directly to the school. Keep those two processes distinct when planning your child's next step.
For families allocated a Reception place, transition sessions share information to help prepare children and parents for starting school. This preparation is separate from the allocation of places and should not be treated as an admissions advantage.
Families can choose mornings, afternoons or full days. Those eligible for 30-hour funding need to obtain a Government Gateway code and give it to the school. Contact the school for current charges.
Nursery enquiries go through the school office or the nursery application form. The office telephone number is 01724 798228, and school visits can be arranged by email.
For the EYFS entrance, follow the path to the wooden gate and then round to the classroom door. Wellies can stay at school. Pack a suitable seasonal hat and sun cream alongside spare clothing, keeping outdoor play in mind when preparing the bag.
