Nursery at Chyngton School

Two to four is the age range for Chyngton’s new nursery provision, bringing younger children into the school’s community in Seaford. April 2026 was its planned opening month. The nursery belongs to Chyngton School on Millberg Road, with enquiries handled through the school office.
A teacher and a supervisor form the nursery team. That gives families two distinct staff roles to understand when discussing their child’s start and ongoing care. The school’s values emphasise kindness, safety and readiness to learn: a simple vocabulary for talking about relationships and expectations with young children.
Kindness and safety provide the school’s shared language for learning together. Chyngton aims for children to take opportunities and develop confidence in what they can do. For parents choosing its nursery, these values offer a useful starting point for understanding the school community their child will join.
Support sits within a wider school structure that includes an Inclusion Leader and SENCO, an assistant to the Inclusion Leader, and a Child Welfare and Parent Support Advisor. These are different roles, giving families routes for discussing learning needs and wellbeing alongside the nursery team.
The school’s approach to special educational needs uses a repeating cycle: assess a child’s needs, agree a plan, put support into practice and review its effect. Parents contribute to decisions about outcomes and support. An Additional Needs Plan records the agreed approach, so conversations can lead to specific actions rather than ending with a general concern.
Speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists are among the outside professionals the school can involve. Its support resources also include the Sensory Den, a school sensory room. These are elements of the wider school’s provision; individual support is planned around the child’s needs.
A diagnosis is not a prerequisite for school support. Families can raise concerns with the Inclusion Team through the office, or email sen@chyngtonschool.org. For a safeguarding concern, the school’s safeguarding team can be reached at dsl@chyngtonschool.org.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate school application through the normal admissions route. For Chyngton, that route is East Sussex County Council; the deadline for starting school for the first time is 15 January. Treat that application as a separate task from arranging nursery attendance.
Transition support is a different matter. Before children start school, an Early Years teacher visits them at nursery or at home, and children have opportunities to attend summer-term sessions. Where a child has a high level of need, additional meetings bring parents, nursery staff, foundation staff and a SENCO together, with the Early Years’ Service involved where necessary. This gives adults time to share the child’s needs and prepare support before the move.
The school office is the nursery enquiry route: telephone 01323 893281 or email office@chyngtonschool.org. Office hours run from 8am to 4pm, giving families a defined window for telephone contact. For current nursery charges, contact the school.
