Fred Games give Royal Park's nursery a distinctive starting point: children listen for sounds, join them into words and begin learning letter formation rhymes. This is the school's own nursery provision on Riverside Road in Sidcup, within a primary academy whose age range starts at three.
Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Good at the inspection on 18 and 19 July 2023. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Two session lengths shape the day. Nursery starts at 9:00, with a half day ending at 12:00 and a full day finishing at 15:00; lunch is at 11:30. The shorter option gives families a morning session, while the longer one continues into the afternoon.
Read Write Inc begins in Nursery. Staff introduce letter formation through rhymes and use Fred Talk and Fred Games to help children hear individual sounds and combine them into words. During the summer term, children moving into Reception that autumn begin initial sounds in daily five-minute sessions. The nursery emphasis is on listening and short bursts of practice.
Number learning also begins early. In July 2023, children in the early years were already getting to work with numbers. Early years children also had opportunities to use the school's swimming pool and take part in forest school. These gave early years children ways to explore outdoors and try activities beyond their classroom routines.
Cooperation starts in Nursery. In July 2023, children were encouraged to work together and show consideration for one another. Support for additional needs began there too, with teaching adapted so children could participate in the curriculum, including those with more complex needs.
The school's inclusion arrangements give parents a structured role. Support plans are reviewed each term, and families are invited to meetings about their child's progress. The Inclusion Leader and senior leadership team oversee SEND provision. Staff have worked with professionals on speech and language, autism and physical disabilities, providing a basis for discussing a child's individual support needs.
Physical access is another practical feature: ramps serve the building and grounds, alongside hearing loops and aids for visual impairment. These are school facilities, relevant when considering how a child will use the wider site.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the normal deadline. The school application route is through Bexley Admissions, using an online or paper Bexley application form.
Transition support is separate from allocation. Reception induction includes an EYFS Transition Booklet completed by the child's current nursery, alongside classroom familiarisation and Stay and Play. Sharing information about a child's needs and interests helps the receiving team prepare for the move; it does not secure admission.

Parents can raise concerns with their child's class teacher or another staff member at collection or drop-off. Safeguarding concerns can also go directly to the safeguarding team at dsl@royalpark-tkat.org, giving families a separate contact route for worries about a child's safety.
