Nursery at Claycots School

Curiosity, kindness and learning to manage feelings give Claycots’ nursery its wider school context. Respect and integrity complete the school’s four values, which Claycots aims to carry into both learning and relationships. This is nursery provision within a primary school, with nursery applications handled by the school itself.
Claycots has two campuses in Slough: Britwell on Monksfield Way and Town Hall on Bath Road. The latter occupies the old Town Hall buildings. Campus choice matters for families organising contact with the school and the later Reception application.
Early reading and writing have a place in Claycots’ early years curriculum. These give parents a useful focus for conversations with the teaching team about their child’s learning.
In July 2024, children’s early education was getting them started well, and the nursery learning environment encouraged imagination. Support for children facing disadvantage or an increased risk of falling behind was effective because staff recognised their needs. That makes attention to the individual child a meaningful strength of the early years provision.
Teaching consistency. July 2024 findings also identified uneven delivery of phonics and missed opportunities to assess understanding across the school. These were school-wide concerns rather than nursery-only findings, but they make consistency in teaching a relevant subject for parent conversations.
Learning to regulate behaviour is part of the wider Claycots approach. Ready, Respectful and Safe are the school’s behaviour principles; staff teach children about self-control as well as expectations for their conduct. The emphasis gives families shared language for discussing behaviour.
Zones of Regulation is another school-wide approach to recognising and managing feelings. Claycots encourages families to use it at home, including discussing emotions and practising calming strategies when children are settled enough to engage. This connects conversations at home with the language used in school.
Family Support teams operate at both campuses and organise weekly parent events. Parents can also contact the school’s SENCO team through the campus telephone numbers. These provide routes into family support and discussions about special educational needs, alongside contact with teaching staff.
Attending the nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Nursery entry and Reception entry are separate: families must make another application through the normal Reception process and meet the deadline for their application cycle.
Slough Borough Council manages Reception admissions, with applications made through its Citizen Portal. Select the campus carefully: Claycots School identifies Britwell, while Claycots Town Hall Annex identifies Town Hall. Getting that distinction right ensures the application expresses the family’s intended campus choice.
For nursery applications, send the completed application form to enquiries@claycots.com. The school contacts families about an offer and their child’s start. In-year nursery places are limited, so an application is followed by a direct decision from the school.
The office can discuss admissions or arrange an appointment. Telephone Britwell on 01753 521215 or Town Hall on 01753 531415. Email is also the contact route outside school hours and during holidays, when the enquiries mailbox is checked periodically.
