Nursery at Foxborough Primary School

Music and early computing give Foxborough’s part-time nursery a distinct learning character. The nursery teacher also works as the school’s music lead, bringing music into early education. Children become eligible to join in the term following their third birthday.
An integrated part of Foxborough Primary School, the nursery sits within the school on Common Road in Slough. Its short sessions make this a choice for families seeking part-time early education, with care arrangements needed around the nursery hours.
Development Matters guides progression within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). For parents, the practical point is that learning is planned to build children’s development over time. Music adds another strand: the nursery teacher combines nursery teaching with responsibility for music across the school.
Computing starts with physical exploration. Early-years children practise using touch screens, a mouse and a keyboard, developing finger control alongside familiarity with computers. They also tackle tasks involving robot programming and problems that connect different areas of learning. Following instructions and making something happen give these activities a concrete purpose for young children.
The sessions are part-time rather than a full nursery day. Morning and afternoon options give families a choice of timing, but the afternoon finishes earlier on Wednesdays. That difference matters when planning the rest of a child’s day and arranging collection.
Toilet independence is an entry requirement: children must be toilet trained before starting nursery. Families need to factor that expectation into their child’s readiness for joining, alongside the age rule.
Support contacts extend beyond the nursery classroom. The school team includes a Pastoral and Family Support Lead, while questions about special educational needs can be directed to the school’s SEND coordinator through the school telephone number.
Safeguarding concerns should reach the safeguarding team on the day they arise. Families can email DSL@foxboroughprimary.co.uk. The school normally discusses welfare concerns with parents before involving other agencies, except where doing so could conflict with the child’s welfare. This gives parents a clear contact route and explains the important limit to that communication.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority’s coordinated admissions process.
For September 2025 entry, nursery attendance at the time of application carried the third oversubscription priority, after looked-after or previously looked-after children and qualifying children of staff. It came ahead of the sibling category. Within a category, distance could decide who received a place, so nursery priority still did not mean automatic transfer.
That admissions cycle required families to name Foxborough on the Common Application Form and submit it to their home local authority by 15 January 2025. These are the arrangements for that past entry year. Families planning a later start should use the arrangements and deadline for their child’s entry year.
Morning nursery runs from 8:30am to 11:30am. Afternoon sessions begin at 12:15pm and finish at 3:15pm, with a 2:15pm finish on Wednesdays. The shorter Wednesday afternoon needs its own collection plan.
Nursery applications go directly through the school’s nursery application route. For admissions enquiries or to arrange a school tour, contact admissions@foxboroughprimary.co.uk or call 01753 546376. A tour can help families consider how the part-time pattern fits their routine before applying.
