Nursery at Marish Primary School

Shared stories, indoor and outdoor play, and parents joining learning activities give Marish's nursery its character. This is the nursery within Marish Primary School on Swabey Road in Langley, Slough, with morning, afternoon and full-time session patterns. The practical choice is between a shorter session and a six-hour day.
At the May 2022 inspection, the nursery included eight places for two-year-olds. Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Good at that inspection; this was an early-years judgement within the school inspection, rather than a separate nursery rating.
Play and adult teaching share the session. Children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), which brings together learning to communicate, move and manage feelings with early reading, maths, creativity and exploration of the world. Adults work with the whole class, smaller groups and individual children, alongside activities children choose themselves. That gives the day different scales of interaction rather than a single teaching format.
Inside and outside learning areas are accessible during this provision, so outdoor learning forms part of children's choices. Staff observe learning and use those observations to decide what comes next. Marish adapts its curriculum to children's starting points and changing interests, making those choices part of planning as well as play.
Books provide starting points for topics, and nursery children take part in shared storytelling. Opportunities to make marks and attempt writing sit alongside other activities. Maths uses objects children can handle and experiences from everyday life, connecting early mathematical ideas with something tangible. The emphasis is on doing, talking and exploring.
Social and emotional care matters here. In May 2022, early-years staff provided strong support for these needs, including for the youngest children. Nursery children also benefited from surroundings that were calm and equipped with learning resources. Those findings give parents a dated picture of care alongside the curriculum.
Tapestry is used to share children's learning with parents and carers. Weekly Stay and Play sessions also let nursery parents participate in activities with their children and contribute to the learning journey. This gives families both an online connection and time alongside their child. Home-learning suggestions build on activities taught at school, providing another link between the two.
Attending Marish's nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route by the relevant deadline. For the September 2026 intake, applications went through the local authority's online form, with the local authority allocating places. Treat nursery attendance and a Reception application as separate decisions.
Preparation for the move has its own practical steps. Reception staff spend time with nursery children who are moving into Reception, and transition visits are arranged. Meeting adults before the change can make the next classroom feel more familiar; it does not secure admission.
Morning nursery runs from 8:00am to 11:00am; afternoon nursery runs from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. The full-time pattern is 8:30am to 2:30pm. Its earlier finish matters when matching the nursery day to work and collection arrangements.
Autumn childcare planning. The school's 2026 autumn half-term runs from 19 to 30 October, with term restarting on 2 November. That two-week break needs space in the family calendar.
