Nursery at Wexham Court Primary School

Oceans give this nursery its identity: Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Indian Ocean are the class names within Wexham Court Primary School’s early years provision. The nursery belongs to the school on Church Lane in Wexham, Slough. Its character comes through in learning that connects conversation and stories with real experiences, rather than in the class names alone.
Families can choose between a half-day place covering 15 hours and a full-day place covering 30 hours. That makes the pattern of attendance a practical part of the choice, alongside how children learn and settle.
Talking, exploring and applying learning are central to the early years curriculum. Ofsted’s April 2025 inspection found that activities developed children’s vocabulary and communication effectively, alongside clear teaching of early mathematical ideas. In parent terms, these foundations involve learning to express ideas and make sense of early maths through experiences children can use, rather than simply encountering new information.
A nursery visit from Thames Valley police officers illustrates that approach. In a February 2025 account, officers shared the story PC Ben, explained their equipment and gave children the chance to explore a police car, including sitting inside and hearing its sirens. The story had a concrete counterpart. Children could ask questions about the people and objects in front of them.
Books also have a place in the nursery’s recommendations. Peace at Last, Superworm and The Gruffalo appear among the Atlantic Ocean class choices, giving parents specific stories to share at home.
Settling starts with contact in familiar surroundings. Before a child begins Nursery, a teacher and teaching assistant arrange a home visit to learn about their interests, needs and any family worries. A subsequent visit introduces the setting and the team. This gives parents an opportunity to explain their child before the nursery routine begins.
The school’s SEND support involves parents in identifying needs and reviewing provision. Where additional help requires a support plan, it is shared with parents each term. Ear defenders, pencil grips and sensory breaks are among the school’s support options, with individual or small-group work used where appropriate. These are school support arrangements, rather than a fixed package for every nursery child.
Food rules are clear: packed lunches must exclude nuts, and children drink water rather than juice or fizzy drinks. For everyday nursery questions, the class teacher is the first contact; a weekly newsletter also reaches parents by email.
A separate application matters. Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place at Wexham Court Primary School. Families must apply again through Slough Borough Council, which coordinates primary admissions.
Familiarity is a separate benefit from admission. The school arranges a Meet the Teacher morning for children moving to their next year group. Children needing targeted transition support may have an individual plan, repeated classroom visits and a scrapbook of photographs to take home over summer. Those activities help children become familiar with their next surroundings; they do not secure a place.
Nursery applications go directly to the school, using its application form. The 15-hour option is funded; funding for the additional hours in a 30-hour place depends on eligibility. Families using that funding add their approved code to the form. Extra hours can also be paid for, with payment arranged through the school portal; contact the school for current charges.
Admissions enquiries go to admissions@wexhamprimary.com. The main entrance is on Church Lane: the school warns that its postcode can direct satnav users to Moat Drive at the rear.
