A school nursery with an early-years judgement of Outstanding is Sinclair’s clearest distinguishing feature. Ofsted awarded that judgement at the inspection on 2 to 3 July 2024. It applies to the school’s early-years provision, rather than a separately graded nursery.
Based on Sinclair Road in Lordshill, Southampton, the nursery belongs to Sinclair Primary and Nursery School. The wider team includes a Director of Early Years and partnership SEND coordinators, giving early education and additional needs identifiable roles within the school’s staffing structure.
The school aims for its Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision to build communication skills, personal development and independence. For children, the emphasis is on becoming confident learners who can express themselves and do more for themselves.

Additional support begins with the class teacher. Classroom adjustments are tried and reviewed before concerns normally move to the special educational needs coordinator (SENCO); urgent safeguarding concerns or acute needs can bring earlier involvement. For families, that means the first conversation about a difficulty usually starts with the adult responsible for teaching their child.
Across the school, support can include picture timetables, now/next boards and quieter workspaces. These are practical ways to make routines and tasks easier to follow. Parents contribute to setting targets and reviewing support, with communication through written updates, telephone calls and meetings. The school also recognises that children may conceal difficulties and aims to explore differences between home and school with families.
Meals are prepared in the school’s own kitchen by a cook and catering colleagues working for Southampton City Catering. This is a physical part of the school’s daily care provision. Parents with a safeguarding concern can contact the designated safeguarding lead through the office, providing a clear route for raising worries.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place, and it gives no priority under the arrangements for September 2027. Families must make a separate Reception application through Southampton City Council’s online process. The deadline for that entry cycle is 23:59 on 15 January 2027.
When applications exceed available places, allocation follows the oversubscription categories, including sibling connections and catchment residence, with distance used to rank applicants within a category. Choosing the nursery therefore needs to be a decision about nursery provision itself.
Transition support is a separate matter. For children with SEND, the school can arrange personalised visits and transition booklets when starting school. Information passes to new staff between year groups, alongside activities that help children become familiar with the change.
Nursery enquiries can go to info@sinclairlive.net or 02380 736663. The school office operates from 8.30am to 4:00pm, giving families a defined contact window.
School payments use Tucasi, with pupil logins obtained through the office. Lunches are among the items handled through this system. For current charges, contact the school.

The school’s early-years provision was judged Outstanding at the Ofsted inspection on 2 to 3 July 2024. This is not a separate nursery grade.
Start with the class teacher. The SENCO normally becomes involved after classroom support has been reviewed, with earlier involvement possible for urgent safeguarding concerns or acute need.
