Nursery at Reydon Primary School

A nursery attached to a primary school brings the next stage of education into the same setting. Reydon Primary School has nursery provision at its Jermyns Road site in Reydon, Southwold, and belongs to Active Learning Trust. For families, the important distinction is between joining the nursery and obtaining a school place later. These are separate decisions.
The school's early years provision received a Good judgement at the inspection on 28 and 29 February 2024. That judgement needs careful context: there were no three-year-olds attending at that time, and children started at Reception. It is therefore not an inspection judgement on the nursery now offered.
Reydon's early years computing approach connects technology with practical exploration. Children practise operating simple equipment and investigate how buttons, flaps and moving parts produce an effect. These activities explore how children's actions can produce sound, movement or new images.
Examples include operating a CD player and investigating toys with pulleys or knobs. These give a concrete picture of the school's approach to early learning, though they should not be read as a nursery session timetable.
Support for additional needs sits within the school's wider team. Parents can speak to the class teacher or SEND coordinator about learning concerns. An Inclusion Team, comprising the Assistant Headteacher/SEND coordinator and Pastoral Support Worker, is accessible to all parents. This gives families a route to discuss both learning and wider support needs.
Individual Support Plans bring the child and family into decisions about targets and provision. Parents' views are recorded, and families can access plans through a secure Provision Map link or request a paper copy. The school also commissions an Educational Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist for work with children and advice to staff.
Physical access is concrete: the school occupies one level, with wheelchair access through the main entrance and to its EYFS classrooms. A disabled toilet has an alarm, and children's toilets have handrails. These are useful features for families considering mobility and personal care needs.
All school staff undertake child protection training. Concerns about harm or neglect go to the designated safeguarding lead, giving staff a defined reporting route.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Suffolk County Council's normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline.
For the 2026–2027 admission cycle, nursery attendance confers no priority. After children with an Education, Health and Care Plan naming the school, the oversubscription order covers looked-after and previously looked-after children, qualifying siblings, then distance. Choosing the nursery should therefore be a decision about early education, rather than a way to secure Reception entry.
For children with SEND, transition support may include extra visits to a new classroom, a scrapbook or social story, and staff handovers. These help build familiarity; they do not change admission rights.

Reception application. Suffolk County Council handles the normal Reception application and communicates the outcome. Keep this separate from arrangements made with the school for nursery attendance.
No. A separate application through Suffolk County Council is required.
It does not confer priority for the 2026–2027 admission cycle. The oversubscription criteria concern care status, qualifying siblings and distance, after admissions through an EHCP naming the school.
