At a Glance

Five mornings with a teacher give Acorns, the nursery at Mount Pleasant Lane Primary School, its defining rhythm. The core offer is 15 hours a week, with an extended childcare option of 30 hours for families needing longer days. This is a fixed weekday pattern, so it suits families able to build their routine around regular attendance.

Acorns belongs to the primary school's early years provision in Bricket Wood. For the September 2026 intake, the eligible birth dates were 01/09/22 to 31/08/23. A nursery class teacher forms part of the teaching team: teacher-led education is a concrete feature of the offer.

The Nursery Day

In October 2022, early years learning combined guided teaching with activities that developed children's ability to communicate and control small movements. In October 2022, routines became familiar quickly, and planned activities supported language and fine-motor development. For parents, that means attention to how children express themselves and use their hands, alongside more formal learning.

The early years foundation stage, or EYFS, included organised teaching in early mathematics and phonics at that time. These were findings about early years collectively, rather than a nursery-only timetable. Nursery children also participated in street dance within physical education, adding a specific movement activity to their experience.

Learning environment. The October 2022 inspection identified missed chances to extend learning through the early years environment, including children's physical development. Although activities had clear educational purposes, the spaces and experiences needed further development across the curriculum. Families should weigh that concern alongside the structured teaching and language activities.

Care and Support

A class newsletter reaches parents each half-term, explaining forthcoming learning and ways to help at home. This gives families a regular connection between classroom activities and conversations or practice outside nursery.

For children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the school works with parents and seeks advice from external agencies. Its SENCo can be contacted through the office or at senco@mountpleasant.herts.sch.uk, giving families a direct route for discussing individual needs.

Staff receive safeguarding updates and first-aid training, including paediatric first aid. Medication can be administered by designated staff when the required paperwork and parental permission are in place. Those conditions matter when planning a child's care during nursery hours.

Moving On to Reception

Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. The school follows Hertfordshire County Council admissions rules. Treat choosing Acorns and applying for Reception as separate decisions.

Practical Information

The nursery morning runs from 8.50am to 11.45am; its afternoon timetable runs from 12.45pm to 3.20pm. The core morning place requires attendance on five days and is not flexible. Extended childcare is described as six hours daily, Monday to Friday, funded through the Government's 30 hours childcare scheme; families who are ineligible can pay for that option.

Lunch Club can extend a morning session, subject to availability. Contact the school for current charges. For nursery enquiries, call 01923 672729 or email admin@mountpleasant.herts.sch.uk. Prospective families can also arrange a school tour through the office, an opportunity to see the provision before deciding.
