Nursery at Stanburn Primary School

A morning, an afternoon or a longer funded day: Petals gives families distinct ways to fit nursery into the week. This is Stanburn Primary School’s own nursery in Stanmore, for children aged three to four. Its session choices make the practical difference: a shorter session finishes before lunch or begins afterwards, while eligible families can take a longer place.
Petals has its own curriculum newsletters and uniform information. That gives parents nursery-specific material to follow, alongside the wider school’s information, rather than relying solely on guidance for older children.
The morning runs from 8:30am to 11:30am; the afternoon runs from 12:15pm to 3:15pm. The longer, 30-hour option starts at 8:30am and ends at 2:30pm. For children taking that option, a paid extension adds 45 minutes and moves collection to 3:15pm.
Personal and social learning has a named framework: Jigsaw. Its Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) planning covers recognising feelings, cooperating with other children and learning how to treat friends kindly. These are practical foundations for sharing play and expressing frustration, rather than simply learning classroom rules.
Being Me in My World and Celebrating Difference are two of the named units. The EYFS content connects feelings with their causes, explores similarities between friends and encourages children to recognise what they do well. Friendship also includes learning how to respond when someone behaves unkindly. For parents, the emphasis is on children understanding themselves as well as getting along with others.
Support sits within Stanburn’s wider inclusion provision, which addresses special educational needs and disabilities, English as an additional language and other individual needs. This places different learning needs within the school’s stated approach to inclusion.
Two full-time Wellbeing Mentors form part of the school’s pastoral team, with training that includes emotional literacy, counselling and bereavement. School lunches are prepared from scratch on site by Taylor Shaw. These are school-wide arrangements; families considering the longer nursery day can distinguish the catering provision from the session’s funded hours.
Attending Petals does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process. Harrow Council manages Stanburn’s school admissions, and the school directs applicants to Harrow’s school admissions page.
For the past 2026 Reception intake, the admissions page listed 15 January 2026 as the closing date, under a timetable marked TBC. That date belongs to that entry cycle. Nursery attendance and the Reception application should be treated as separate decisions.
Funded sessions. Petals offers 15-hour morning or afternoon places, plus some 30-hour places for eligible parents. Parents using a 30-hour place can pay for an additional 45 minutes, finishing at 3:15pm. Refer to the school for current charges.
Applications for Petals use Harrow’s nursery application form linked from the nursery page. Admissions enquiries can go to admissions@stanburn.harrow.sch.uk. The school also offers tour booking, giving families a direct route to arrange a look around before deciding.
